xQc Wants To Fix The Esports Industry With Betting and Co-Streaming

As a long-time follower and admirer of xQc’s entertaining and unpredictable streams, I must say that his ideas for the esports industry have certainly caught my attention. While some might view his proposal as a bit ‘degen’ or risky, his suggestions around watch parties, co-streaming, and live betting seem to tap into the core of what makes gaming and esports so appealing – the social aspect.

As a dedicated gamer, it’s no secret that I’ve noticed the esports industry hasn’t been consistently profitable for quite some time. For years, this market has been like a roller coaster, with teams going up and down as the struggle to make significant money takes its toll on the overall business landscape, causing it to sway back and forth.

More recently, popular streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel shared during a live session that he believes he’s found an ideal solution for the issues plaguing the esports sector. However, in his own terms, he described it as somewhat ‘risky’ or ‘unconventional’.

Gambling and Co-Streaming

During a recent Q&A stream on Kick, xQc spoke about the esports industry. He was asked what he’d do to help repair the constant instability of the market, to which he immediately agreed that something needed to be done. He pointed out that even before he was a pro player several years ago, the industry was ‘struggling’.

However, his plan to right the ship would prove inflammatory for many millions of esports fans.

On stream, he said that the esports industry needs:

… gatherings for group viewings, simultaneous streaming, and potentially interactive live wagering during broadcasts… Many of these activities are fundamentally social experiences that are a significant part of our human interactions.

Indeed, it should be noted that Lengyel acknowledged his lack of current understanding regarding the status of the esports industry.

Removing that significant financial constraint in esports could be greatly facilitated by my leadership, though I’m aware there are likely many aspects I’m unaware of due to being an outside observer.

As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the significant role esports betting plays in our thriving community. It’s no secret that it contributes to roughly half of the entire market’s income! The collaborations between esports organizations and betting sites are truly noteworthy, with giants like Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and Dota 2 being key players in this gambling sphere. Competitive gaming and wagers have become as synonymous as peanut butter and jelly!

Sharing live streams together, or co-streaming, has become quite significant as well. To illustrate, the official broadcast of the Call of Duty League frequently gets outperformed by co-streams conducted by professional gamers (or even ex-pros) such as Seth ‘Scump’ Abner.

Although they’re not the definitive solution, it was shown in the latest FNCS Global Championship that high viewership can still be achieved even when some major streamers did not participate in broadcasting the event.

Through the passage of time, xQc has frequently found himself in controversial situations due to his persistent endorsement of live streaming gambling activities. His collaboration with Kick.com, a platform supported by Stake, was both productive and infamous, often intertwined with a $100 million contract offer. It’s not entirely unexpected that his proposed solution leans towards gambling, and while it may seem questionable to some, it’s not entirely inaccurate either.
