Netflix and FIFA surprised everyone this Wednesday by announcing they’re teaming up to make a new show or movie based on the 2026 World Cup.
A New Football Simulator for Everyone
The new game will be a football simulator created by Delphi Interactive, the studio currently working with IO Interactive on the upcoming James Bond game, 007: First Light.
Although the project doesn’t have a name yet, it’s planned to launch in the third quarter of 2026. The aim is to let Netflix subscribers fully enjoy the excitement of the tournament with a game that’s easy to pick up, challenging to perfect, and accessible to everyone.
The game will offer both solo and online multiplayer options. You can play simply by having a Netflix subscription and using a smartphone or a Smart TV. Support for TVs will be available in select areas.
The gaming community was surprised by the recent announcement, particularly when FIFA President Gianni Infantino declared it the start of a new chapter for the sport. He explained that their updated game represents a significant change in how FIFA approaches digital football, signaling a new strategic direction.
The game’s release timing, coinciding with the next World Cup, is intentional. The developers hope to use the worldwide enthusiasm for the event to attract a large number of online players.
