Okay, so I just read this report from Jason Schreier, and apparently Naughty Dog is making the team working on ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’ put in a ton of overtime. It’s a bummer to hear, honestly – hope they’re being taken care of and it doesn’t lead to burnout. I’m really excited for that game, but not if it comes at the cost of the devs’ well-being.
According to a report published Thursday, the studio known for games like The Last of Us and Uncharted has been requiring employees to work extended hours to prepare a demo for review by its parent company.
Starting in October, employees were asked to work at least eight additional hours each week, tracked using a spreadsheet. This was implemented to recover time lost because of missed deadlines.
Schreier reports that employees were limited to a 60-hour workweek. They were also required to return to the office five days a week, an increase from their previous three-day schedule. This change caused some employees to quickly find new arrangements for childcare and pet care.
Currently, Intergalactic is planned to be released around the middle of 2027. Sony and Naughty Dog haven’t made any official statements about these reports.
