I was so curious about that “Lightning Item” mentioned in the 1.7.0 patch notes for ARC Raiders! The patch notes said lightning could leave behind something valuable, and fellow raiders have already figured it out. It’s called Fossilized Lightning, and it’s an Epic drop – pretty awesome, right?
This guide explains everything about this rare item and details the real-life phenomenon of Fossilized Lightning, proving it’s not just a creation of the game’s developers.
What Fossilized Lightning Is in ARC Raiders

The new item in ARC Raiders, called a lightning strike, is inspired by a real natural occurrence called fulgurite. Fulgurite is created when lightning strikes sand, soil, or rock, turning it into a glass-like, fossilized shape. The developers at Embark Studios have recreated this in the game’s Electromagnetic Storm events, which center around lightning strikes. Just like in real life, these fulgurites are rare to find in the game, but they aren’t impossible to collect.

- Spawn Condition: Electromagnetic Storm
How to Get Fossilized Lightning
In ARC Raiders, you get Fossilized Lightning by participating in the Electromagnetic Storm event. When lightning strikes during the event, it can sometimes create fulgurite at different locations.
The game offers clues to help you find where lightning has struck. Right before lightning hits, you’ll notice an electromagnetic field appear where it will land. It’s best to avoid that spot immediately, but once the storm has passed, you can check the area for a Fossilized Lightning.
This new item from Epic doesn’t drop with every lightning strike. Initial reports indicate it’s quite rare, probably appearing less than 10-15% of the time.
Fossilized Lightnings were introduced to ARC Raiders with the Cold Snap update in December 2025.
Electromagnetic Storm Event Explained
For a limited time, you’ll find more ARC Porbes and Couriers on maps. However, there will be fewer ways to escape, and random areas will be hit by lightning. This lightning can harm you and the ARC, but it’s also how you can find Fossilized Lightning.
What Fossilized Lightning Does in ARC Raiders
Image via Embark Studios Fossilized Lightning is currently just a collectible item in the game. You can break it down into Explosive Components or sell it for 4,000 ARC Raiders Credits. It’s not used to craft anything, and no blueprints require it.
Fossilized Lightning might prove helpful in future challenges like Flickering Flames or other events. Plus, new crafting blueprints could need it, considering its explosive nature and the materials you get when you break it down for parts.
The Best Way to Use Fossilized Lightning

If you have a lot of these rare items, you can also sell them for 4,000 Credits each – a good amount, similar to what players were earning with the Energy Clip exploit, but without needing any materials or crafting.
