Gears Of War Games With The Best Stories, Ranked

As someone who’s been through the trenches of Sera multiple times, I can confidently say that each Gears of War installment offers a unique and thrilling experience, but some stand out more than others. After countless hours spent with these grizzled soldiers, I’ve come to appreciate the intricacies of their stories and the richness of their universe.

Among the top-tier exclusives for Xbox, Gears of War consistently carries high standards, compelling players to consider purchasing an Xbox due to its reputation. Fortunately, it has consistently surpassed these expectations by delivering games that offer exceptional single-player combat and thrilling multiplayer experiences.

One advantage that the game “Gears” boasts is its deep and captivating backstory, which is delved into through comics, novels, and naturally, its main games and offshoots. By utilizing some of gaming’s most recognized characters, this franchise has yet to produce a game that isn’t worth investigating. However, it’s important to note that there are several games in the series whose stories truly shine among their peers.

5 Gears of War: Judgment

An Exploration Of The Series’ Most Fun Characters

As a gamer, I find myself playing as Baird and Cole, two Gears who are as far from being professionals as you can get while still being crucial cogs in the COG machine. So it’s no shock that in Gears of War: Judgment, we find ourselves standing trial for war crimes, along with the rest of Kilo Squad.

As I delved into the game world, I found myself experiencing the story from four unique viewpoints, creating an intriguing twist on its narrative structure. But what truly impressed me about Judgement was how it managed to weave a captivating smaller tale within this vast universe, demonstrating that the future of Gears could thrive even without Marcus and Dom.

4 Gears of War

Establishes The Groundwork For The Stories To Come

In the game Gears of War, players are introduced to a massive, chaotic world that has been battered by 14 years of conflict with the Locusts. Yet, this is also the beginning of a three-part series where humanity struggles and fights to emerge from the predicament it’s found itself in.

Players experience approximately 8 hours in the sturdy footwear of Marcus Phoenix, a manly protagonist, as he and his team fight their way through the diverse urban landscapes of Sera. This journey ultimately results in the COG soldiers inflicting a crushing defeat upon their long-standing adversaries, the Locust. This tale is a straightforward action narrative that primarily focuses on presenting players with its vibrant array of masculine characters.

3 Gears of War 3

The Ending Of A Number Of Legendary Arcs

In the concluding chapter of the initial trilogy, Gears of War 3, players are offered resolution for several storylines that reached a climax in Gears of War 2. Notably, Dominic Santiago’s personal journey finds its end, and the ominous growth of the Locust menace is significantly amplified.

In Gears 3, we learn about the origins of the Lambent faction of Locusts, first introduced in Gears of War 2. However, this game’s plot appears to be wrapping up loose ends, and by the end, both the Locusts and the Lambent appear to have been dealt with, allowing the world to move towards restoring normalcy. But, as there are two more mainline games following this one, that peace doesn’t last for long.

2 Gears 5

Proves Gears’ Story Has A Lot More To Say

Following the brief deviation presented in the playable version of “Gears of War 4”, “Gears 5” returned to the core themes of the series, delving deeper into the origins and inner workings of the Locusts. The narrative is filled with unexpected events, sudden changes of direction, and hidden COG conspiracies that are gradually unveiled throughout the game’s main storyline.

Here, there’s a substantial focus on the grand narrative of “Gears of War”, ensuring players can absorb the revelations at their convenience in strategic open-zone segments. To enhance the experience, there are engaging collectible hunts that unveil additional lore details. Moreover, intriguing character moments are included, which alter players’ perspectives on significant figures, including JD from “Gears 4”. This combination makes for an exceptional “Gears” storyline since “Gears of War 2”.

1 Gears of War 2

The Most Emotional In The Series

Over time, Dom’s character has consistently been featured on numerous lists of the most heart-wrenching moments in video games, and for a valid reason. His tale in the Gears of War series is legendary, but it’s in Gears of War 2 that his story achieves an incredibly moving climax.

The game is filled with instances challenging the beliefs of its characters, as the entire COG army strives to find solutions against the locust menace. Consequently, extreme actions are resorted to, despite substantial human casualties up until then, leaving players contented and curious about the future of Marcus and his comrades.
