The new ‘Forsaken Hollows’ area in the ‘Elden Ring: Nightreign’ expansion introduces several new bosses, including some familiar foes from the original game or other Soul titles. For instance, the ‘Lord of Blood’ is actually Mohg, a challenging optional boss players may remember from the ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ expansion.
So, what about this second version of the Blood Master? Is it the same enemy we fought before, or has he changed? Does he have a new set of powerful (and frustrating) attacks? Let’s find out everything about the Lord of Blood boss and how to beat him in The Forsaken Hollow.
How To Find The Lord Of Blood

The Lord of Blood is a powerful boss you can only fight on Day 2 of The Balancers’ expedition. You’ll know he’s coming if you defeat Curseblade and the Divine Beast Warrior at the end of Day 1.
This boss is probably the toughest one you’ll face on Day 2 of the DLC. It’s best to be at least level 11, and make sure you have at least two or three healing flasks. Anything that protects you from Blood attacks will also be very helpful.
How To Defeat The Lord Of Blood
First Phase
In the first phase of the fight, the Lord of Blood doesn’t use many different attacks, but he’s still a very dangerous opponent. Players who fought him in the original Elden Ring will recognize many of his moves, as he repeats them frequently. If you’re new to the fight, don’t worry – we’ll cover everything you need to know.
The Lord of Blood attacks with a powerful swing of its trident. It often follows up with a sweeping claw attack from above – if you see the marks from this claw, quickly escape, as it will explode soon after.
This boss has other blood-based attacks that can cause bleeding if you’re not careful. Watch for when he creates circles above himself – if he’s looking at a player nearby, he’ll likely summon a shower of blood around them. But be aware, he can also launch blood attacks at a distance.
Both these attacks leave fire on the ground for a moment. Try not to step on them.
He can quickly dash forward while attacking, so it’s best to dodge to the side to avoid it – don’t try to back away!
While fighting the boss, pay attention when he raises his weapon and displays a number – he’ll create a red ring near you. You can’t avoid these rings, so be prepared! After three rings appear, the boss will unleash an attack that’s impossible to block. A specific damage-reducing potion can protect you from one hit, but it won’t save you from all of them.
The enemy will strike with a powerful, three-pronged weapon and create magical circles, so either stay out of his reach or attack him from behind.
Once the Lord of Blood’s health drops to about 50%, he’ll create a third ring. Right after that, he starts a ritual that hits you with three consecutive Blood Loss attacks while simultaneously restoring a significant amount of his own health.
When this enemy attacks, keep healing constantly to avoid being instantly defeated. You can try to attack back if you’re confident, but it’s generally safer to prioritize staying healthy.
Second Phase
Once the Lord of Blood completes his ritual, he’ll transform, gaining new wings and attacks. While he’ll still use some of the same attacks as before, let’s concentrate on understanding what’s changed and how to deal with it now.
Thankfully, the boss won’t repeat the unavoidable Blood Loss attack during this phase.
This character can soar into the air and launch projectiles of blood that leave a fiery path. He then dives towards a player, attacking as he descends. While the blood trail doesn’t reach long distances, be prepared to dodge sideways during the final attack, as it automatically targets you.
He can do a small jump and attack directly in front of him, but you can easily avoid it by dodging to either side.
The boss has a predictable attack pattern with his spear: he sweeps from right to left, then left to right in front of him. You can avoid it by timing a roll to utilize the brief invulnerability during the animation. Or, the simplest way to evade the attack is to just roll backwards a few times until you’re far enough away.
The boss’s attacks now leave flames on the arena floor, so watch where you step and try to keep the fight in clear areas.
During this phase, the boss has a particularly frustrating attack: a blood-based spell. He’ll briefly charge up, then summon several tridents that appear on the ground. After a short delay, these tridents activate, creating damaging clouds of blood. The only way to avoid the damage is to move far enough away.
Blood tridents can be destroyed with any weapon, but there are so many of them and they’re quite durable. You won’t have time to destroy them all before the ritual begins. Focus on taking out the tridents closest to you and your teammates, and try to avoid other areas if you can until the ritual is complete.
This blood ritual, on the other hand, can be repeated!
The Lord of Blood is weak for a few seconds after taking a critical hit, so keep attacking with critical hits as often as you can – powerful weapons are especially useful for this!
