Now that The Dawning event is active in Destiny 2, players have discovered a previously reliable way to earn Bright Dust is no longer working, causing frustration among fans. Destiny 2 is a game that’s constantly updated, and it often features limited-time events tied to holidays. The latest of these, The Dawning, has returned with its usual winter and holiday atmosphere.
The Dawning is usually the last special event in Destiny 2 each year, following events like Solstice, Guardian Games, and Festival of the Lost. It’s a winter-themed event where players collect ingredients to bake cookies and give them to characters in the game for rewards. Players can also use snowballs in combat to hinder enemies, and this year includes a new Snowball Fight PvP mode. However, a recent change to the event has caused some confusion and frustration among players.
The Dawning No Longer Rewards Bright Dust for Bounties
The annual Dawning event in Destiny 2 used to be a good way for players to earn Bright Dust, which is used to buy cosmetic items. However, when the event started this year, players noticed that completing bounties no longer rewarded Bright Dust. Previously, players would buy cookie bounties from Eva Levante in the Tower, bake the cookies, and deliver them for a quick and easy reward. As long as players had the necessary ingredients and glimmer, this process was relatively simple and efficient.
Bungie recently removed a popular feature in Destiny 2, and players have been expressing their disappointment online, particularly on social media and Reddit. Many feel this change will worsen the game’s existing problem of losing players, driving even more people away. Others say they won’t be spending as much time with the event as they normally would. Because Bungie staff are largely on holiday break, it’s unlikely this issue will be addressed during the current event.
Many players are unhappy with this year’s Dawning event, and it’s not just about the removal of Bright Dust farming. Bungie has also made it harder to earn Essence of Dawning, encouraging players to focus on Portal activities like the new Vanguard Alerts in Destiny 2. Faster ways to earn Essence, such as public events, lost sectors, and patrols, are no longer available. Players are sharing tips on where to find Essence, and the Caldera Solo Ops mission is becoming popular again. A helpful tip for those who have it: equip the Starfarer 7M ship during the event, as it has a chance to grant Essence whenever you earn an ingredient, offering a simple way to farm it passively.
Image via Bungie Players are still upset about the amount of Bright Dust earned in Destiny 2, especially with the recent release of Renegades. This update also brought changes to how seasonal challenges work. While the new system, called Orders, makes some tasks simpler, it doesn’t reward players with as much XP or Bright Dust. Not only are the rewards smaller, but Bungie has also limited how much players can earn overall, making seasonal progress feel much slower than before.
