Your objective across all five levels is straightforward: evade San Francisco before you become an unwitting victim in this catastrophic event.

11 Tank Challenge (& Tanks Playground)
These two campaigns for the game “Left 4 Dead 2” on its Workshop offer custom-made maps and a concept that’s as tough as its title suggests. In both “Tank’s Challenge” and “Tank’s Playground”, players are tested to endure wave after wave of Tanks, with no other enemies to aid them.
The Tank’s Challenge game is an extension of the Tank’s Playground. In Tank’s Playground, players must endure for 10 minutes while confronting a series of 13 to 15 different Tanks. 9 A Variety Of Half-Life 2 Custom Levels
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at how Valve’s masterpieces, each one unique in its own right, share the same foundation – the Source engine. It’s fascinating to observe how elements from this engine effortlessly blend across games, creating an immersive universe that transcends individual titles. Garry’s Mod, for instance, showcases this seamless integration by allowing users to incorporate assets directly from installed Source games into their spawn interface. However, the similarities run much deeper than just Garry’s Mod.
Enthusiasts of the game Half-Life 2 and its two DLC episodes adapted three distinct areas’ level designs into the creation toolkit for Left 4 Dead 2. These complete maps incorporate visuals, audio, and non-player characters from the iconic first-person shooter, seamlessly blended with the gameplay mechanics that Left 4 Dead is renowned for.
As a fellow gamer, I gotta mention that for many of those Half-Life 2 maps, you’ll likely need to install an extra texture mod to make the experience smoother and more visually appealing.
Point Insertion
The Point Insertion level from Half-Life 2 is one of the most recognizable opening areas from early 2000’s FPS games. It originally served as the place where Gordon Freeman enters City 17 through the train station and escapes the Combine to an apartment complex while constantly under the gaze of Dr. Breen on overhead monitors. The Left 4 Dead 2 version of this level was taken directly from Half-Life 2 and serves as a nostalgic (and terrifying) trek through one of the game’s most iconic locations.
Red Letter Day
In the sequel to Half-Life 2, the next stage after Point Insertion is called Red Letter Day. This level introduces the player to Alyx, Dr. Kleiner, Eli Vance, and Lamar. On the other hand, in Left 4 Dead 2, the players are swiftly taken through a clandestine lab area and then thrown into an intense chase along Route Kanal, much like in the original game. However, instead of encountering the Combine, players will face various types of zombies unique to Left 4 Dead 2.
Route Kanal
In simpler terms, after the level called Red Letter Day, you encounter Route Canal in the game Left 4 Dead 2. This stage takes you through canal systems and urban surroundings in a fast-paced escape from the Combine. On June 17, 2011, Suicide Blitz 2 was showcased on the official Left 4 Dead blog. This particular campaign stands out due to its abundance of Easter eggs, a custom-made tank model, and the survivors journeying from a city to a football stadium. Notably, there is an intriguing Half-Life 2 Easter egg hidden within, where players must transport a gnome from the beginning of the campaign all the way to the final chapter.
In this scenario, the player encounters a series of three tanks while attempting to reach the helicopter. Following this battle, there’s a bird’s-eye view of the stadium that gets attacked by fighter jets.

7 Helm’s Deep
Helm’s Deep is a survival-themed map inspired by “Lord of the Rings,” where players are transported to Helm’s Deep. On February 20, 2013, this custom campaign was showcased by Valve. In this cooperative gameplay, friends can join forces and battle against waves of the undead in the legendary fortress that marked Rohan’s final stand against Saruman’s army.

As per the creator’s claims, every single setting within this map has been inspired by actual locations in Barcelona. The campaign concludes with a challenging finale, requiring players to navigate through swarms of zombies and reach a helicopter for escape.
Back in November 2012, I was thrilled to see my beloved game, Warcelona, showcased by Valve! This unique campaign stood out with its zombie characters donning soccer jerseys, making it one of the rare instances where a custom infected mode was introduced.

5 Urban Flight
In the game Urban Flight, players are tasked with fleeing a blazing metropolis towards a military base. The climax involves gathering eight fuel containers to fill up a plane for an escape. Additionally, the climax features a unique tank character, dressed in military attire.
The gameplay resembles early versions of ‘Left 4 Dead’, where players navigate through an urban landscape, ultimately aiming to fuel an aircraft for departure. While the setting is familiar, it presents a fresh environment that warrants exploration.
Where To Download Urban Flight
In the Steam Workshop or GameMaps, you can find the Urban Flight campaign for Left 4 Dead 2. After installing, it’s strongly recommended that players activate the Instructor Hints. You can do this in the Multiplayer Options menu, which lets you toggle it on and off. It’s crucial to use these hints to grasp the significant climax and final event, especially if you want to fully appreciate their importance.
4 Deathcraft II
In Deathcraft II, you can experience the world of Left 4 Dead within Minecraft. This custom campaign allows players to battle zombies in a blocky setting, blending elements from both games in an interesting way. Although it’s not an official Left 4 Dead 2 campaign, it remains an enjoyable option for fans of the original Left 4 Dead.
In addition, there’s a hidden feature called an Easter egg. If a player transports a pumpkin from the first chapter to the second, they can obtain an Eye of Ender. Taking this item to a portal in the third chapter will enable players to engage in a battle against the Ender dragon. Defeating it will result in receiving diamond swords as a reward.

For those accustomed to custom L4D2 maps, Deathcraft 2, a Left 4 Dead 2 campaign, can be found on both the Steam Workshop and GameMaps. Unlike many others, this one consists of seven distinct sections. To ensure smooth operation, all other addons should be turned off while using Deathcraft 2.
3 Day Break
In the game “Day Break,” players engage in combat with the infected crowds in San Francisco. The settings span downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, a ship at sea, and the climactic battle occurs on Alcatraz Island. The objective is for players to locate 13 fuel cans so they can refill a helicopter, enabling them to flee from the city.
Additionally, there’s an Easter egg hidden throughout the game where players can discover a bar stocked with gnomes. On the table, there are capsules that encourage the player to consume them, leading to their vision gradually shifting colors. Inputting a specific code will reward the player with a flamethrower. These Easter eggs can be found on every map, and this particular one is accessible in the mod’s initial chapter.

2 Death Aboard 2

On this island, the survivors must battle their way to the summit of a lighthouse to secure their freedom.
In an unusual twist, the rescue craft is unlike anything you’d encounter in typical Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns, taking the form of a hot air balloon instead. Once all survivors have climbed aboard, they drift gently aloft towards sanctuary.

You can obtain the custom campaign for “The Death Aboard 2” from either GameMaps or the Steam Workshop. Notably, the Steam Workshop edition encompasses the entirety of the two sections of the custom campaign.
1 Back To School
The adventure initiates with the characters following their automobile crash. Gamers assume control of the survivors from Left 4 Dead, navigating them towards a school. The survivors encounter challenges in the forest, a railway station, and a settlement prior to reaching the school.
The finale takes place on the school’s football field, where the survivors must collect gas cans to escape. There are two endings: one where the players escape in a helicopter, and one where they escape on a bus. During the latter finale, a nuke goes off and destroys the town.
