The first major reset in ARC Raiders ended with a special cutscene meant to explain the outcome of the Expedition Project. However, it’s sparked a lot of debate and speculation among players. For those who don’t know, ARC Raiders allows players to voluntarily reset their progress after completing difficult missions called Projects. Completing a Project lets players leave the city of Speranza and start over with a new character, earning both permanent and temporary rewards. The first Expedition began on December 22nd, and the cutscene that followed has become a major talking point in the game’s community.
Many ARC Raiders players are reporting that the Expedition Project cutscene is glitching or skipping entirely, and they can’t rewatch it. This is frustrating because the cutscene shows personalized stats for each player, similar to a season review. Meanwhile, players who did see the cutscene are now experiencing different issues.
Fans Think the ARC Raiders’ Expedition Has Some Plot Holes
On December 22nd, the first players participating in the optional reset of ARC Raiders experienced a final cutscene as they left the Speranza base. It began with a player saying goodbye to their pet rooster, Scrappy, and showed the process of leaving. The scene ended with the player walking away from a wrecked caravan, carrying only a few supplies. While the cutscene itself seems simple, it contains details that don’t quite fit with the game’s current story and background.
Some Player Questions About ARC Raiders’ Expedition Cutscene
- With all the resources poured into the Expedition, why is the raider carrying only a small bag at the end?
- Raiders travel all over Speranza with no issue, so why did the Expedition with all of its resources and prep end up crashing in the middle of nowhere?
- Why did players have to build a separate caravan if it’s the exact same device used for every other raid?
- What was the point of this project if it ended up being largely the same as a normal raid?
- If there’s a tube leading to the Expedition site, why don’t raiders go there regularly like the other game locations?
- If players are not taking Scrappy with them, why does the next raider need to upgrade the chicken from scratch?
Players who finished the Expedition Project in ARC Raiders are puzzled by how it unfolded. The cutscene shows they spent a lot of effort and materials building a device that didn’t take them very far before failing. After the crash, they just collected a few supplies and headed off in an unknown direction. Given the game’s backstory, this feels less like a planned expedition and more like a hopeless, final journey.

The Expedition Project, often seen as the main hope for the people of Speranza, might appear to have failed. The raiding groups seemed to have been sent out quickly, without a solid plan. However, there’s another possibility: perhaps the raiders weren’t trying to achieve what everyone thought. Some believe they were actually the first explorers, sent to find new places to live or other survivors who could help Speranza fight back. If that’s true, the Expedition Project isn’t a failure at all, but a logical first step.
Image via Embark Studios Because Speranza only has a limited number of caravans, and they’re all used for raiding, players needed to build a new one to launch an expedition. This also explains why no one had explored this tunnel before – Speranza hadn’t had the resources to scout it until the players provided them. Looking at it this way, the raider’s aimless wandering makes sense; they were just hoping to find something valuable and report back.
This idea – that the events of the first wipe in ARC Raiders can be understood like a journey of discovery – could solve a lot of mysteries. However, it doesn’t completely explain everything, like why Scrappy the chicken reset even though players left him behind. For clearer answers, players might need to wait for Embark Studios to share more of the game’s story, as they’ve done in the past. Hopefully, the next major event in ARC Raiders will finally reveal what the raiders are planning and why they’re issuing these difficult missions.
