Silent Hill Developer Teases Switch 2 Exclusive Game

Bloober Team, the studio behind Project M, believes their upcoming horror game is a great fit for the new Nintendo Switch 2. While Nintendo consoles haven’t traditionally been known for horror titles, Bloober Team hopes to change that with this exclusive game.

Okay, so I’ve been following Bloober Team for years now – they’ve really become a go-to for psychological horror. Games like Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium were great, but everyone really took notice when they got the job of remaking Silent Hill 2. That was a huge deal! And honestly, they nailed it – it was one of the biggest releases of 2024. This year they showed off their own new game, Cronos: The New Dawn, and now they’re working on a remake of the original Silent Hill and something called Project M. Both are super exciting, but Project M is especially interesting because Bloober Team has been wanting to make a game specifically for Nintendo for a while now. It feels like they’re really hitting their stride!

Bloober Team’s CEO Says Project M “Could Only Exist on Nintendo Hardware”

Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, recently told Nintendo Insider that he’s always wanted to create horror games for Nintendo consoles. He started the company with that goal in mind, but early struggles almost forced them to shut down. They were saved by an investor, but had to focus on smaller projects, temporarily putting his Nintendo dream on hold. Now, with Bloober Team established as a successful horror game developer, Babieno is finally able to pursue that dream with their next project, currently known as Project M. While details are still secret, Babieno has hinted at some exciting influences for the game.

Project M Has Some Compelling Influences

  • Resident Evil
  • Silent Hill
  • Limbo
  • Eternal Darkness

Babieno revealed the diverse inspirations shaping Project M. He confidently stated the horror game will offer a unique experience, claiming it’s something never before seen in the genre and only possible on Nintendo consoles. The game draws heavily from psychological horror titles like Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness, continuing Bloober Team’s focus on that style. It also incorporates action-oriented survival horror elements seen in Resident Evil. Interestingly, Limbo, a side-scrolling puzzle platformer, is also an influence. This suggests the developers enjoy creating atmospheric puzzles, as demonstrated by their work on Cronos: The New Dawn, which aligns with the feel of Limbo.

I started a game development studio with the goal of making horror games, and I wanted to focus specifically on Nintendo consoles.

Although Piotr Babieno didn’t reveal specifics about the story of Project M, he believes Bloober Team will be able to share more details in the near future. Currently, the Nintendo-exclusive horror game is being kept under wraps, but given Babieno’s positive outlook on Nintendo and Bloober Team’s work, fans can expect exciting things to come.
