Mortal Kombat 1’s Conan the Barbarian Could Use a Radically Different Skin

Mortal Kombat 1's Conan the Barbarian Could Use a Radically Different Skin

As a long-time fan of both Mortal Kombat and Conan the Barbarian, I must say I’m thrilled about the upcoming additions to Mortal Kombat 1’s roster, especially the arrival of Conan. However, I can’t help but feel that the developers might be missing a trick by not embracing the more modern take on the character.

With the upcoming release of the “Khaos Reigns” expansion for “Mortal Kombat 1”, we can expect to see new characters joining the game in the upcoming months. The second year of this game is set to introduce some thrilling characters as DLC, and there are crossovers on the horizon. Last year, popular figures such as Homelander and Omni-Man were added to the roster, and it seems that these collaborations are far from over.

Among the thrilling characters joining Khaos Reigns, you’ll find the T-1000 from Terminator 2 and Ghostface from Scream. However, another fantastic addition is Conan the Barbarian, a well-known comic book hero who has been featured in various pop culture adaptations. One of the most famous portrayals is the 1982 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, Conan is making his debut in Mortal Kombat 1, but it might be more fitting for his skin to draw inspiration from a different live-action version instead.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Conan the Barbarian Skin May Need a Modern Makeover

Using Conan’s Most Recent Version

While Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Conan in the ’80s is widely recognized and iconic, it might align more suitably with Mortal Kombat 2 or 3. On the other hand, Jason Momoa’s interpretation of Conan seems a more fitting match for the visual style of Mortal Kombat 1.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to admit that while Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Conan might be iconic in pop culture, it’s beginning to look a bit dated. The 80s version of Conan feels more cheesy than menacing, which could potentially conflict with the intriguing character designs in Mortal Kombat 1. However, there’s a strong possibility that they might introduce a Jason Momoa-inspired skin for Conan as his release date remains undisclosed. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 is rumored to introduce new characters, and unique skins for each character is nothing new in the fighting game genre.

There is currently no official launch date announced for Conan the Barbarian.

If Johnny Cage can acquire a Jean-Claude Van Damme likeness, then it’s feasible that multiple Conan versions could be created. It might seem unexpected if the upcoming Conan skin were to feature two distinct models, but it’s not entirely out of the question. While Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Conan didn’t fare well at the box office, it’s undeniably cooler in terms of overall aesthetics. The 80s interpretation might evoke a sense of nostalgia, but the more contemporary design is more robust in character development.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns is Making Way For New Characters

Although it may seem outdated aesthetically, it’s thrilling to anticipate the opportunity to play as Arnold Schwarzenegger in the future. However, the addition of the T-1000 brings up a question: Why wasn’t the T-800, like in Mortal Kombat 11, not included? A battle between the T-800 and the T-1000 would have been a significant attraction. However, it appears that Mortal Kombat 1 prioritized a diverse roster with a mix of nostalgic characters over this matchup. Despite the 80s Conan not appearing as cool anymore, he remains an iconic character whose inclusion in Mortal Kombat 1 is exciting.

In a slightly different take, the cheesiness could add appeal, and perhaps they’re thinking about a different rendition of Conan with Jason Momoa’s likeness too. The character Ghostface might seem unconventional, but the diverse roster in “Khaos Reigns” promises an engaging experience for various gamers. Regardless of how Conan looks when he debuts in “Mortal Kombat 1”, it will be intriguing to discover his gameplay mechanics.
