We recently interviewed Nikita Buyanov, the studio head at Battlestate Games, the company behind Escape from Tarkov. We discussed the possibility of bringing Escape from Tarkov to consoles, a topic the developers hinted at during the Tokyo Game Show.
Nikita has made it clear that bringing Escape from Tarkov to consoles won’t be a simplified experience. He says it will be just as challenging and demanding as the PC version, maintaining the game’s notoriously difficult and unforgiving nature.
It’s his mission to make players break controllers.
What Would Escape from Tarkov on Console Look Like?
Most people expected Escape from Tarkov on PlayStation or Xbox to be a simpler version of the notoriously difficult game. However, after speaking with Nikita Buyanov on the latest episode of TopMob’s Access Granted, we now understand that’s not the case at all.
We’re not planning a simplified version of the game for consoles. Our priority is to deliver the exact same experience as the PC version, meaning no aim assist or reduced features.
I want players on consoles to feel the same intense challenge and difficulty that currently exists, making the game more appealing to a broader range of dedicated gamers.
We’re not trying to dominate the market; we want to develop a fresh, exciting experience for console players. They haven’t seen anything quite like it before – a truly intense game that will really push their skills and maybe even their controllers to the limit.
It’s worth stressing that Nikita made the ‘frustrating experience’ comment with a chuckle!
Nikita broke down what’s making things tough. Basically, Escape from Tarkov is complex. You’ve got to manage your inventory, keep track of your health, just survive… and the biggest thing? It needs a ton of keybinds. Seriously, it feels like you need a keyboard and mouse to even have a chance. It’s just too much for a controller, honestly.
As a huge fan, I’m so glad to hear they’re not dumbing down EFT for the new consoles! They’re saying it’ll be the same core game we all love, but they’re going to optimize it to really take advantage of the current-gen hardware. That’s exactly what I wanted to hear!
The biggest hurdle will be implementing all the necessary controls. While it will be challenging, we expect the project to be quite interesting overall.
Escape from Tarkov officially launched in November, so it’s unlikely we’ll see a console version very soon. The developers have only hinted at a possible release on current-generation consoles, but haven’t given any firm dates.
