As a seasoned Mapler with over a decade of experience under my belt, let me tell you that the Cadena and Blaster classes are two of the most thrilling and challenging additions to the roster. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush and enjoy mastering complex mechanics, the Cadena is your gal! Her Muscle Memory skill not only deals additional damage but also keeps you on your toes as you strategize your attack sequence.
Initially, when Maplestory debuted in 2003, it featured only four initial classes, known as Explorers, which included Warrior, Magician, Thief, and Archer. As players progressed, they would take on jobs that served as their primary role, such as Heroes, Paladins, and Dark Knight for Warriors. Each job had several advancements leading from the starting class to the final one. Initially, there were only three jobs for players to advance to, but over time, new classes were introduced, the maximum level increased, and more advancements became available. Now, dedicated players can reach a 6th Job in each class.
In Maplestory, it’s common knowledge that the game revolves around optimizing your character for speed and damage output in order to defeat enemies as swiftly as possible. The faster you can clear the screen of foes and the greater the amount of damage you inflict during this process, the more you can boast about your prowess. This leads to a self-reinforcing loop where players strive to eliminate enemies rapidly in order to level up and unlock new Jobs or Skills that enable them to wipe out enemies even quicker. So, which Classes are unquestionably superior at this? Let’s delve into the details.
22 Khali
The Wind Of Vengeance
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
High Flora | Thief | LUK | Dex | Chakrams | Hex Seeker |
Although Khali is quite fresh, unfortunately, this class hasn’t experienced the usual ‘new Maplestory class’ boost where they become excessively powerful after release. Khali isn’t poor in any way, and it boasts impressive mobbing ability; however, it encounters some difficulties in boss fights. Void Rush is Khali’s most notable skill, but it comes with its pros and cons.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but admire Khali’s agility in battle – darting around maps is an exhilarating experience! However, their main skill also serves as a double-edged sword when it comes to boss encounters, sometimes leading to awkward situations. In essence, dealing damage with Khali requires dedication and precision, with the execution bar set rather high. This places them towards the lower end of the rankings, at least for the time being.
21 Buccaneer
The Psuedo-Super Saiyan Also Known as ‘Viper’
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Explorer | Pirate | STR | DEX | Knuckle | Wrist Band |
2024 finds Buccaneer from Maplestory still holding a special place in our hearts, given that we’ve always been fond of this character. However, it’s important to note that this sentiment may be influenced by our personal bias. Nonetheless, Buccaneer is exceptionally well-rounded in the current year, boasting high mobility, impressive damage output, remarkable survivability, and visually stunning effects. In essence, playing Buccaneer is a lot of fun. While there are certainly characters with higher raw DPS, few can match the excitement of having a Buccaneer in your party.
The Pirate is particularly lively during battles against bosses, boasting substantial potential for solo bossing. In contrast to its earlier days, this class has undergone several extensive revisions of its abilities and overall style. Nevertheless, in the present day, the Pirate’s popularity has soared significantly above its initial levels. With impressive farming skills such as Lord of the Deep and powerful bossing skills like Octopunch and Hexa Octopunch in 6th Job, the Pirate is an all-around excellent choice.
20 Lynn
The Forest Child & Replacement For Beast Tamer
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Unique/Other | Magician | INT | DEX | Memorial Staff | Leaf/Shield |
Transitioning to the topic of Lynn, one of the most recent additions to Maplestory as of September 2024. To clarify, Lynn is both a fresh class introduction and a revamp of an older class, effectively replacing Beast Tamer in the game. From now on, you won’t be able to choose Beast Tamer in Maplestory; instead, you’ll play as Lynn. However, Lynn isn’t just an upgraded Beast Tamer; she’s a completely new design that serves as both Support and DPS, boasting excellent crowd control abilities and a multitude of fantastic skills for buffing and healing allies. Essentially, Lynn’s primary gameplay involves using her bear’s large hitbox to attack and swarm enemies while her bird and wolf abilities independently stack additional buffs on her overall performance.
Lynn primarily functions with a key mechanic called ‘Focus Target’, which she selects from among her party members. Many of Lynn’s abilities boost or heal this chosen player. Remarkably, even when Lynn is alone, she can still utilize this mechanic by automatically designating herself as the ‘Focus Target’. Essentially, Lynn straddles the line between a Support and DPS character, not outshining in either role but performing satisfactorily in both. This makes her slightly lower in the rankings compared to other characters.
19 Pathfinder
The Cursed Wanderer Of The Ancient Bow
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Explorer | Archer | DEX | STR | Ancient Bows | Relics |
Generally speaking, characters resembling Archer types tend to be well-liked in video games and anime, yet they rarely make it to the top. This could be due to several factors such as people viewing the bow as less ‘cool’, archers being stereotypically limited in skill sets, and so forth. However, in the world of MapleStory, Archers prove to be incredibly powerful, with the Pathfinder serving as a notable example.
In terms of archers, the Pathfinder stands out with its imaginative approach. Instead of relying on traditional ammunition, Pathfinders utilize a mystical resource known as ‘Cardinal Force’. Unlike conventional archers who need extra or fewer arrows for various shots, many Pathfinder skills come with an Emblem that alters the symbol in their Relic Gauge. The emblem determines how the skills function or what effects they have. This results in a flexible and effective gameplay style for the Pathfinder, making it one of the top choices for mobbing, given its current high performance.
18 Night Walker
Summoner Of Umbra, The Spirit Of Darkness
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cygnus Knight | Thief | LUK | DEX | Claws | Jewels |
Night Walkers, being the stealthy members of the Cygnus Knights, show a wide range in their ability to inflict damage. Often acting as the ‘thieves’, they can strike swiftly and employ throwing stars in many of their skills for dealing damage. Much like other Thief classes, gameplay involves frequent replenishment of throwing stars during combat, a common activity that forms the core loop of gameplay in MapleStory.
As a devoted fan, I must say that while many classes excel at swarming enemies, the Night Walker wasn’t necessarily one of them – until the Cygnus Knights received a significant boost and the Night Walkers specifically underwent numerous subtle improvements to enhance their mobbing capabilities. Regardless, this class truly comes into its own during boss fights, making it an exceptional choice for those who appreciate the ‘sinister, stylish ninja’ vibe.
17 Ark
The Specter Of The Abyssal Path
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Flora | Pirate | STR | DEX | Knuckles | Abyssal Path |
Coming up next is a discussion about the Pirate Class, surprisingly enough, contrasting its appearance with other well-known pirates. It’s called Ark, a class that experienced a significant decline in popularity between 2022 and 2024 primarily due to the Ignition Update favoring other classes over it more substantially.
Still, Ark is a class with fantastic mobbing skills, absurdly large AoE attacks, a lot of edgy dark magic, and a lot of attacks that move it around a map. While its transformation is one of the shortest in the game, the Class is still good enough outside of that to warrant putting it on here.
16 Kanna
Oda Nobunaga’s Number One Enemy
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sengoku | Magician | INT | LUK | Fans | Haku Fans |
Once more, here comes an exceptional mobbing class boasting a distinctive mana system – it’s none other than Kanna! The Kanna class is strikingly reminiscent of the Onmyoji from Japanese folklore, as hinted by her clothing and the utilization of Shikigami.
Kanna’s Mana system naturally regenerates when not fully depleted, and additionally, Mana Veins appear throughout each map when Kanna employs specific abilities. Standing within these veins greatly accelerates Kanna’s Mana restoration rate. Essentially, Kanna is a more contemporary Maplestory character class boasting stunning visual skills and exceptional crowd control capabilities. Moreover, she’s one of the few characters with an ability that boosts the spawn rate of nearby enemies (which translates to quicker farming).
15 Illium
A Survivor Of The Verdant Flora & Wielder Of The Lucent Gauntlet
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Flora | Magician | INT | LUK | Lucent Gauntlets | Lucent Wings |
In the realm of MapleStory, the Flora are among the newer races that have been added. One such race is the Illium class, which belongs to the Magician category. This class wields ancient magic for flight and teleportation, making it simple to maneuver around the battlefield and swiftly engage enemies. The Radiant Orb and Radiant Javelin skills are their primary tools in this regard. Adjusting to the high-mobility gameplay can be a learning curve, particularly with the placement of the orb, but overall, the class is robust. Its bossing DPS is somewhat average, leaning towards the lower end, but it compensates for this by being generally reliable.
14 Thunder Breaker
A Storm Lover & Cygnus Knight Blessed By Lightning
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cygnus Knight | Pirate | STR | DEX | Knuckles | Jewels |
In MapleStory, the depiction of a ‘pirate’ class stands out as an exemplary illustration of the game’s distinct class system. For those seeking a blend of melee combat and spellcasting excitement, the Thunder Breaker provides an ideal balance. These sea-faring Pirates, who revel in stormy weather, can seamlessly combine their elemental attacks and abilities, granting them exceptional agility and damage potential. To be honest, when traversing maps with them, it’s quite simple to misplace the player character amidst all the large electric effects and various Skills visuals.
Thunder Breakers need a slightly higher number of button presses when grinding compared to other classes, and their bossing abilities are moderately good at best. However, Thunder Breakers excel in mobbing due to their high speed, excellent maneuverability, and skills that cover a vast area of the screen.
13 Dawn Warrior
A Soldier Of Truth, The Light In The Darkness
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cygnus Knight | Warrior | STR | DEX | One-Handed or Two-Handed Swords | Shields & Jewels |
As a passionate admirer of the Cygnus Knights, if you’re yearning for a more conventional combatant with versatility on the field, I’d recommend the Dawn Warrior. This formidable damage-dealer can wield either one-handed or two-handed swords, making them adaptable in various battle scenarios. Their prowess is further accentuated by their stance-switching mechanics, which are intricately designed to give them an edge on the battlefield.
In this update, the Dawn Warrior class has seen significant enhancement, particularly after the Knights of Cygnus overhaul. Now more effective than ever against groups of enemies, it boasts incredible agility, an array of large-area skills that are not only powerful but also visually striking, and a multitude of dashes with invincibility frames, making its damage output simply unbelievable.
12 Hero
A True Warrior & Weapons Specialist
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Explorer | Warrior | STR | DEX | Swords & Axes (Either One-Handed or Two-Handed) | Medallions & Shields |
Fourth-tier melee Warriors, often referred to as heroes, possess formidable strength. They employ a series of combinations (or combos) to amplify the damage they inflict upon adversaries. These combos create unique orbs which, when collected, temporarily boost the warrior’s overall damage output. Moreover, these warriors can utilize specific skills to consume these orbs, thereby weakening their enemies by applying debuffs.
In simpler terms, the Warrior’s primary talent is a unique skill called Enrage, which enables them to concentrate on fewer opponents while significantly boosting their attack power. Essentially, this makes the Warrior an exceptional class for defeating bosses with the help of Enrage. Moreover, when wielded skillfully, the Warrior can swiftly clear maps due to its intricate combo orbs system.
11 Zero
The Child Of The Goddess
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Other | Warrior | STR | DEX | Alpha Long Swords | Beta Heavy Swords |
Among the creative decisions made by MapleStory, it’s hard to overlook the unique class known as Zero, which comprises of Alpha and Beta. This class stands out in numerous ways from the standard gameplay. For instance, characters belonging to this class start at level 100. Furthermore, players controlling Zero are managing two distinct entities, each with their individual Health Points (HP) and Time Force (TF) meters, which serves as Zero’s mana gauge.
To fully leverage the Zero class, players must frequently switch between Alpha and Beta abilities, managing resources and health for both characters simultaneously to achieve optimal utility and damage output. It’s worth noting that Zero is among the top classes in the game when it comes to raw numbers if you can handle this dynamic switching mechanic. But if the idea of switching isn’t enjoyable for you, then the Zero class may not be the best fit.
10 Aran
One Of The Six Sealed Heroes
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Heroes | Warrior | STR | DEX | Polearms | Mass |
In MapleStory, Aran, the Warrior class, stands out as an ideal blend of accessibility and intricate gameplay. Unlike some overpowered classes that are often hard to surpass due to their simplicity, Aran’s complexity lies in its Combo Count system which significantly influences every aspect of its gameplay. However, updates have made this mechanism easier to manage once a player achieves a 100-hit combo, making it more approachable for players.
Arans may be one of the earlier classes overall, but due to all the steady changes and buffs over the years, they’re now a class with absurd natural DPS output, passive healing, great bossing damage, and more. The only aspect where Arans fall short is the actual range of their skills, but that’s a small price to pay.
9 Demon Slayer
A Betrayed Commander Of The Dark Mage
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Resistance | Warrior | STR | DEX | One-Handed Blunt Weapons & One-Handed Axes | Demon Aegis |
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: In the game world, I embody the enigmatic Demon Slayer, hailing from the Resistance faction. My character exudes an edge that chills to the bone. Drawing upon dark, demonic energy, I wield powers that shroud me in shadows and grant me sinister wings. Clad entirely in black, my pallor mirrors the ethereal glow of moonlight, a fitting hue for one who battles demons.
The Demon Slayer excels in both boss fights and managing mobs, thanks to its unique Demon Fury system that eliminates the need for an MP gauge. With each skill they use and enemy they attack, their Demon Fury is continuously activated and recharged. Players should be mindful of its status as it plays a crucial role in gameplay. In essence, the Demon Slayer is versatile, performing exceptionally well in various situations, boasting high mobility and Skills with invincibility frames to help navigate tricky scenarios.
8 Kinesis
Friendstory’s Local Hero
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Other | Magician | INT | LUK | Psy-Limiters | Chess Pieces |
In this game, one of the classes, called Kinesis, operates differently from others by utilizing a unique resource rather than Mana Points. The Kinesis character in MapleStory can be likened to Sora from Kingdom Hearts, being a magical boy originating from another realm. However, unlike Sora who came from his magical world to Earth, the Kinesis is originally from Earth and his powers of telekinesis are considered ‘magic’ in the Maple World. To illustrate further, the Kinesis’ abilities can be compared to the magic of a character like Sage in Black Desert Online, as the majority of the Kinesis’ skills revolve around manipulating gravity, lifting, or throwing objects.
Among the characters, Kinesis stands out as an exceptional choice for mobbing, particularly in large-scale map encounters. His unique ability to manipulate psychic energy allows him to toss enemies around, summon attacks, construct objects, or even hurl a train at his adversaries using his Psychic Points system. However, when it comes to boss fights, Kinesis is less effective unless the boss is stationary, in which case he can hold his own.
7 Hoyoung
The Dashing Rogue Of Grandis & Liberator Of Taotie
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Anima | Thief | LUK | DEX | Ritual Fans | Fan Tassels |
In the upcoming lesson, you’ll find that Hoyoung’s class may well be among the most mechanically complex on the roster, but it’s also incredibly endearing, being one of only two ‘Anima’ types. Hoyoung offers an impressive array of features: high damage output, spectacular abilities, effective crowd control, numerous evasion options, and top-notch boss DPS. However, mastering this class requires a deep understanding and precise use of its Talisman Energy and Scroll Energy system, as well as the Dark Sight system in later levels.
To effectively manage Hoyoung’s UI interface, you need to adjust the intricate dial while the three spheres (colored teal, orange, and purple) symbolize distinct aspects of his Attribute Skills (Humanity, Earth, and Heaven). It might take some practice and feel like mastering a complex fighting game character initially, but when a player eventually grasps Hoyoung’s mechanics, they’ll discover one of the more rewarding classes in the game.
6 Evan
Tamer Of The Onyx Dragon Mir
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Heroes | Magician | INT | LUK | Staves & Wands | Shields & Documents |
In the world of MapleStory, Evan is recognized as one of the six Heroes and is famed for his Dragon Master class. Unlike other characters who summon or channel their dragons through spells or communion, Evan integrates a dragon named Mir directly into his abilities, combining them with his own skills to achieve more potent effects. Mastering when to trigger these Fusion Skills or managing them effectively requires some practice, but once mastered, playing as Evan offers an experience similar to that of a Mage, with a dragon companion. Or, in comparison to other classes like Beast Tamer, Evan’s abilities feel less reliant on a ‘power of friendship.’
Here are several combinations of Evan’s Fusion Skills: Wind Slash, Thunder Flash, Thunder Dive, Earth Dive, Wind Breath, Earth Breath, Wyrmking’s Bread, and Ludicrous Speed. Despite the many options, Evan is quite user-friendly to play, which might be why it’s so enjoyable as players can concentrate more on their stylish performance of wiping out entire screens effortlessly. This character stands out as one of the stronger mobbing classes, excelling particularly in groups rather than boss battles. In summary, while Evan performs well against bosses compared to some alternatives, its real strength lies in crowd control rather than single-target fights.
5 Bishop
Another Path For Elinnia’s Most Famous Archmage
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Explorer | Magician | INT | LUK | Staves & Wands | Shields & Magic Books |
Among the notable entries on this list, the Bishop is one of the few that stands out primarily for its supportive abilities. For a long time, Holy Symbol, a skill acquired in the third job, has been the primary reason for the Bishop’s popularity. Although it still significantly contributes to their appeal today, in high-level parties and particularly during boss fights, Bishops excel at keeping allies alive. However, the Bishop can be quite sluggish when it comes to leveling compared to other classes until they reach the 4th Job level, where they acquire Big Bang Skill.
More recently, Bishop has experienced some modifications, introducing 5th Job Skills that boost the total damage of the party, eliminate knockback effects, and offer additional benefits. Previously considered a valuable class, in the year 2024, Bishops have skyrocketed to become one of the most sought-after classes within the game due to these new abilities.
4 Cadena
The Nova Royal Family’s Sole Survivor
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nova | Thief | LUK | DEX & STR | Chains | Warp Forge |
As a thrilled admirer, I’m eager to share my excitement about the latest addition to our roster – the agile and formidable Cadena, a Thief-class character! This class, long-awaited by many, is a true glass cannon, living up to the Thief’s reputation in every aspect.
Here’s one way of paraphrasing the given text: Each time Cadena switches weapons for an attack (this occurs with various skills), Muscle Memory kicks in, causing extra damage. Moreover, many of Cadena’s moves are mobile, allowing them to move across a map while attacking simultaneously. Although their boss damage isn’t as strong as other Thief classes, their mobbing is exceptional, and they offer a more engaging gameplay experience overall.
3 Blaster
The Resistance’s Renowned Dynamo
Class Type | Job Type | Main Stat | Secondary Stat | Primary Weapon | Secondary Weapon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Resistance | Warrior | STR | DEX | Arm Cannons | Charge |
In MapleStory, a well-played Blaster character is truly a spectacle, as this Resistance class stands out for its intricate mechanics among all others in the game. Although the raw damage output may not always compensate for the mechanical complexity, when utilized effectively, the Blaster ranks high in terms of DPS (Damage Per Second) classes.
As a gamer, you’ll find that this class comes equipped with an arm cannon that operates on a revolver-style ammo system. It’s crucial to keep an eye on your ammo while dodging and weaving, or else you might end up in some sticky gameplay situations. Mastering the art of managing ammo takes concentration and quick reflexes. If you’re the type of player who thrives on mastering a game’s mechanics, then the Blaster is definitely worth considering for your next adventure.
