2025 wasn’t a standout year for new shooting games, to be honest. Most popular games continued to be those that were already established and regularly updated, but there were still a few bright spots. TopMob has chosen one game that really stood out as the best of the year.
Whether you prefer playing from a first-person or third-person perspective, there are plenty of shooter games to choose from. While 2025 saw a lot of popular action-adventure and indie games, high-quality, action-packed shooter games are still being released.
TopMob‘s 2025 shooter of the year might cause some debate, but there’s plenty of cause to agree.
Best Shooter Game Of 2025 Winner—Battlefield 6

Battlefield 2042 really hurt the reputation of the Battlefield series, so the next installment, often referred to as Battlefield 6, was a make-or-break moment for EA. Luckily, it delivered! This new Battlefield is a massive, immersive first-person shooter that proves why players love a shooter that’s different from typical games where you just aim and shoot.
The single-player campaign isn’t very impressive and is easily forgotten, though it might be a fun warm-up for the game’s real strength: its online multiplayer. Battlefield truly shines when played with others. While a few maps could be a little larger, that’s something that can be improved over time. What the game does deliver is incredibly exciting and immersive action. You’ll experience everything from spectacular vehicles and intense firefights to chaotic crashes and the thrill of buildings collapsing around you – even inexperienced players sending jets flying off course!
Battlefield 6 won Best Audio Design at The Game Awards 2025 for good reason. No other game so effectively conveys the intense, moment-to-moment experience of war. After some doubts about the future of the series, EA has truly delivered with the addition of RedSec’s Battle Royale mode and consistent free content, creating a complete and satisfying package.
Best Shooter Game of 2025 Nominations
ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders quickly became the biggest shooting game of 2025. While early playtests generated a lot of excitement—some thought too much—the developers at Embark Studios were confident. When the game launched on October 30th, it proved them right, becoming an immediate success.
Even two months after its release, ARC Raiders continued to attract over six figures of players. The game became known as a more welcoming take on the typically harsh ‘extraction shooter’ genre—games like Escape From Tarkov and Gray Zone Warfare can be very difficult—and is likely the easiest game of its kind to pick up and play.
After all, ARC Raiders did create a new genre.
DOOM: The Dark Ages

The DOOM series is currently at an interesting point. The 2016 reboot was a huge success, and while some players prefer the faster movement and more complex level design of DOOM: Eternal, that’s a matter of personal preference. Most agree that DOOM: The Dark Ages isn’t quite as strong as the previous two games, but it’s still an incredibly action-packed and intense experience. The Dark Ages’ focus on a medieval setting and its increased emphasis on story and cutscenes have been divisive. Let’s be honest, DOOM is famous for its fast-paced shooting, not its storytelling.
Despite some changes, the core gameplay is still fast-paced and satisfying. The parry system and Saw Shield are welcome additions, but the dragon sections feel forced and don’t really add to the experience. In trying to do too much, the game has lost some of the straightforwardness that made DOOM 2016 so good. However, it’s still an exhilarating game, and hopefully the next installment will strike a better balance between innovation and what made the series great.
Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 introduces many new features, and for the most part, they really work well. The open world is engaging, with secrets and challenges everywhere you look. The core gameplay remains familiar – you pick one of four unique Vault Hunters, embark on a quest to save the world, discover hidden vaults, and collect an overwhelming amount of weaponry – enough to arm an army!
It’s a shame Borderlands 4 launched with so many performance problems, because the game itself showed a lot of promise. Features like the Grapple Hook and jetpacks were fun additions, and suggest Gearbox has plenty of creative ideas. However, to reach the next level of success – selling over 100 million copies – the next installment will need even more polish and innovation.
Besides Battlefield 6, did any other shooting game earn your vote as the best of 2025? Perhaps a surprise contender like the next Call of Duty – Black Ops 7? Share your thoughts with us on the official TopMob Discord server!
