Okay, so I’ve been playing ARC Raiders and checking out what everyone else thinks about the new update that came out on December 26th. Honestly, the community is pretty split on it. The game launched at the end of October and has actually done surprisingly well – a lot of games see a big drop in players after the initial excitement, but ARC Raiders hasn’t really crashed and burned like some expected. It’s lost some players, sure, but it’s holding on much better than I thought it would.
The game remains popular not only because it’s fun to play, but also due to a recent optional reset that allowed players to start over with some advantages. This “Expedition” wipe gave players a fresh beginning. Another appealing feature is the Raider Deck system, which is similar to a battle pass. Players earn in-game currency called Cred and use it to unlock cosmetic items and helpful upgrades over time.
ARC Raiders Goalie Deck Has Players Talking
So far, two cosmetic decks have been released for ARC Raiders: the initial “Ryder & Voyager” deck and the newer “Goalie” deck, which launched on December 26th. The Goalie deck comes with winter-themed rewards that match the game’s recent “Cold Snap” update, giving players outfits inspired by hockey gear to help them brave the cold. Since its release, the Goalie Deck has sparked discussion among players, with some loving its style and value, while others are less impressed.
Raider Decks are generally well-received because they provide free cosmetic items and helpful consumables without being overly intrusive. While these rewards are purchased with Cred, a currency earned through gameplay—not real money—it gives players a long-term goal to strive for. Players also like that the Goalie Deck’s design fits the winter theme of the Cold Snap update. Importantly, these Decks aren’t intended to give players a significant advantage in the game; they’re more about optional rewards, similar to the Battle Pass in Fortnite, which focuses on things like character skins and emotes rather than gameplay benefits.
Some players feel the rewards from the ARC Raiders Deck aren’t great, or that it takes too long to unlock things. The Deck is organized into pages, and you need to spend a certain amount of in-game currency (Cred) to unlock each page. Players are frustrated that they have to spend Cred on items they don’t want just to get to the items they actually want. This issue isn’t specific to the Goalie Deck – it’s a problem with the Deck system as a whole.
Image via Embark Studios So far, only two Decks have been released. The newest one, Goalie, costs a bit less than half the amount of Cred as the first Deck to fully unlock. The reward for completing the Goalie Deck is a yellow outfit that’s designed to motivate players to keep going. The original Deck, Ryder & Voyager, is still available and free, so players can work on both simultaneously. Some players are happy the first Deck hasn’t been removed, while others think new Decks should replace older ones. Embark hasn’t said whether this will happen, and it’s also possible that future Decks won’t be free, which could lead to more criticism.
