New PUBG Mobile Update Adds New Maps

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that PUBG Mobile‘s latest move to incorporate climate change awareness into their game is nothing short of commendable. The collaboration with Professor Mark Maslin and the creation of the Ruins of Erangel maps truly paints a vivid picture of what our world might look like if we don’t take action against climate change.

During the Green Game Jam 2024 campaign, themed “Play for Green,” PUBG Mobile has unveiled two fresh WOW (World of Warcraft-like) maps and additional content.

2 New WOW Maps for PUBG Mobile

In a unique partnership, the creators of PUBG mobile teamed up with climatologist Professor Mark Maslin to envision what their game’s world might look like a century into the future due to climate change. This collaboration resulted in the development of two distinct maps, Ruins of Erangel Sandstorm and Exploration, within the World of Wonder mode.

By designing the PUBG Mobile maps, the creators aim to portray a vision of the future that reflects how severe climate change can transform our planet drastically. These maps incorporate aspects such as fierce dust storms, barren forests, rising sea levels, and other related phenomena.

In the Sandstorm version of Erangel’s Remains, participants must hasten to gather medical resources scattered across the map. The longer a player manages to endure as the sandstorm approaches, the more likely they are to emerge victorious from the match. In the Exploration edition of Erangel’s Remains, players will have an opportunity to engage in a “special story-focused adventure” centered around a “compelling tale exploring the effects of climate change.

New Themed WOW Items

In addition to the existing elements in the World of Wonder mode, some fresh items themed around environmental conservation have been added. These Play for Green-themed additions encompass two rare plant species – the majestic Giant Baobab Tree and the towering California Redwood. Also included is a new Classic Blue Zone Device Effect (Sandstorm Zone), a new Water Cube visual (Lava and Polluted Water), and the Green Game Jam emblem.

PUBG Mobile Run for Green Event

In addition to PUBG Mobile, there’s an eco-friendly event called “Play for Green” for the traditional game modes. The distance each player runs while playing any of these classic modes during the event impacts collective goals. These objectives will support initiatives globally that aim to safeguard essential ecosystems.

During the Run for Green event, players have an opportunity to open a novel interactive location within PUBG Mobile’s Home mode. This interactive spot is a beautifully designed garden that highlights five rare tree and plant species found in nature. These remarkable species include the Giant Baobab Tree, Wollemi pine, Monkey Puzzle Tree, Pitcher Plant, and Corpse Flower.
