As a seasoned Jackbox enthusiast who has been partying it up with these virtual games for over a decade now, I can confidently say that the latest installment, the Jackbox Naughty Pack, is a wild ride worth taking. This adult twist on the series is a welcome addition to my game night rotation, but like any good party, it’s not without its highs and lows.
For ten consecutive years, Jackbox Games has unveiled a fresh addition to their popular Jackbox Party Pack collection annually. The Jackbox Party Pack games have generally been of high quality, providing several entertaining party games per installment, although some less successful ones are often overlooked by the community. This year’s release from Jackbox is named Jackbox Naughty Pack, which introduces a more mature angle to the series. Similar to previous Jackbox Party Pack editions, Jackbox Naughty Pack has both its high points and areas for improvement.
As a gaming enthusiast, I dived into the world of Jackbox Party Starter in 2022. Unlike the packed Jackbox Party Packs with five games, this one was a compact version, offering just three games to savor. It served as a sneak peek into the series’ offerings. On the other hand, Jackbox Naughty Pack, also with three games, presents entirely new experiences. Although it doesn’t match the content volume of the Party Packs, the unique games it offers make it a notch above the Starter pack.
The trio of games from the “Jackbox Naughty Pack” includes Fakin’ It All Night Long, Dirty Drawful, and Let Me Finish. I find Fakin’ It All Night Long and Dirty Drawful highly entertaining and expect them to be frequent choices for my game nights, but I must admit that Let Me Finish is arguably the least enjoyable party game in any “Jackbox” collection so far.
Let Me Finish is a Disaster
In simple terms, I found the game “Let Me Finish” bewildering during my 10-year journey with Jackbox games. It was the first time someone playing with me decided to leave the game midway. The game’s premise involves giving players a question and an image to draw on. For instance, we were asked, “How would this wardrobe wear gray sweatpants?” Each player could then draw pants on the wardrobe using their phones, usually focusing on the lower part of the wardrobe. Two participants then had to defend their designs, allowing others to weigh in with their opinions if they wished. Although Jackbox games have always been challenging, I must say that Let Me Finish offers nothing amusing or enjoyable. The humor feels forced, and the images linked to the prompts often don’t fit well together or make sense.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the entertainment level of “Fakin’ It All Night Long” and “Dirty Drawful” has significantly escalated! The former, nestled within the “Jackbox Naughty Pack,” is our mandatory social deduction game. Here, one player assumes the role of the “Faker” and must deftly dodge detection by the others. The prompts are often playfully suggestive, requiring participants to gesture with hands or perform various physical actions. The Faker has to swiftly decipher everyone’s moves and adapt accordingly. Laughter abounds when playing “Fakin’ It All Night Long,” and its integration of real-life elements adds a unique twist to typical Jackbox party games. However, it should be noted that as a traditional game, it falls short due to the challenge in identifying the Faker within the three rounds. Yet, competition isn’t what we’re after when playing these games; it’s all about having an amazing time with the right gang of friends!
Dirty Drawful is a Ton of Fun
In summary, the game Dirty Drawful stands out as the highlight of the Jackbox Naughty Pack series, a fact that longtime fans of the Jackbox Party Pack might have anticipated. Essentially, it’s the classic Drawful game, but with inappropriate drawing prompts. Players are challenged to create absurd images, aiming for responses that fit the picture rather than focusing on strategy. The humor lies in the outrageous prompt answers people often provide. While regular Drawful can sometimes become explicit depending on the players, Dirty Drawful intentionally leans into this aspect, adding a fun twist. It shares similarities with games like Telestrations After Dark or Drawing Without Dignity.
Delving into the Jackbox Naughty Pack, I initially worried that the theme might seem repetitive as my friends and I are already accustomed to the more casual games in our collection. However, it presents a unique twist compared to other Jackbox Party Pack offerings. Titles like Dirty Drawful and Fakin’ It All Night Long certainly provide plenty of humor, yet the enjoyment derived from Jackbox Naughty Pack largely depends on the company you keep during gameplay.
The Jackbox Party Pack: Naughty Edition is priced at $19.99. While this might seem quite expensive for just three games, those who frequently host game nights will find plenty of worth in the entertaining options like Dirty Drawful and Fakin’ It All Night Long.
The Jackbox Party Pack series and the Mature-rated Jackbox Naughty Pack primarily derive most of their enjoyment from the players themselves. While the Naughty Pack may not offer the same level of value as a standard numbered release, it remains quite amusing. Among the standouts in this compilation are Dirty Drawful and Fakin’ It All Night Long; however, Let Me Finish falls significantly short compared to these two. Unfortunately, there are only three games included, one of which isn’t particularly enjoyable. Despite having just three games, party game enthusiasts should find plenty to appreciate in the Jackbox Naughty Pack and may even get more than they paid for.
The “Jackbox Party Pack” can currently be purchased on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. For the purpose of writing this review, we received a PS5 code from Game Rant.
