As he hasn’t tackled a sequel before, it appears that he put a lot of thought into why he chose to take on this particular project. Derrickson expressed:
“I pondered over whether I would be ready to produce ‘The Black Phone 2’, my final film project, if that were the case. After careful consideration, I found a concept or angle for the movie that truly energized me. It was as if I had said yes, without hesitation; it’s the next film I want to create.
In the movie “The Black Phone,” it’s the child actors, specifically Mason Thames as Finney and Madeline McGraw as Gwen, who truly shine. Their performances as siblings are remarkable, making their characters stand out. They’ve already been living in terror due to their abusive and alcoholic father, and when they discover about The Grabber, a kidnapper from their neighborhood, the fear intensifies. We don’t know if Finney and Gwen will attempt to face The Grabber again or what becomes of these intriguing characters in “The Black Phone 2.” The sequel leaves us guessing.
