It’s been over two years since the premiere of “The Batman,” and fans are uncertain about the franchise’s future direction, which has them concerned. However, Reeves has now publicly confirmed his commitment to finishing the intended Batman trilogy, offering fans some reassurance.
In a conversation with Collider, Reeves shared his original blueprint for the trilogy, emphasizing that his ideas have remained consistent even after the success of the initial film. When questioned about the status of the trilogy, Reeves affirmed, “Indeed, that’s still our intention. The plan is holding steady and closely adhering to the path we envisioned.” Furthermore, Reeves acknowledged that the spin-off series, The Penguin, has significantly altered the initially conceived shared universe. However, he remains dedicated to advancing the The Batman trilogy by staying faithful to the storyline he originally devised. He further explained, “Things have evolved. So, when we decided to create The Penguin, that was an opportunity for me to continue his narrative, focusing on his rise to power from the early stages.” Initially, The Batman‘s origin story was not the focus; instead, Reeves intended to introduce the origins of other characters, particularly those in the Rogues Gallery, as a prelude to the next movie.
Matt Reeves assumed the directorial role for the movie “The Batman” following Ben Affleck’s departure due to the chaotic production of “Justice League.” Known for his work on “War for the Planet of the Apes,” Reeves penned the entire script and emphasized portraying a younger iteration of Batman.
