
Around ten years ago, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild really changed what people expected from open-world games. By the time it came out, many gamers were starting to feel that just having a huge world wasn’t enough to make a game fun. Breath of the Wild showed that a great open world should be about exploring and being curious, not just completing a long list of tasks. Since then, lots of games have tried to recreate that feeling, and some, like the open-world RPG Myths of Gallantium from Finale Games, have even said it directly inspired them. Sadly, despite still having a page on Steam, it’s unlikely Myths of Gallantium will ever be released, which is disappointing.
The game Myths of Gallantium quietly appeared on Steam in June 2022, but hasn’t gained much attention since. While the developers once shared updates and promising early gameplay footage on a small subreddit, development seems to have stopped around that time. The game aimed to capture the feel of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with gameplay similar to Runescape. According to Finale Games, personal circumstances led to the halt in development, and although a future release isn’t impossible, the game’s prospects currently appear uncertain.

Myths of Gallantium Adopts the Atmosphere of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

A standout feature of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is its incredibly open and free-flowing world. While many games offer open worlds, Breath of the Wild is special because it doesn’t force you down a specific path – you truly decide where to go and what to do. It takes this freedom even further by removing most on-screen markers and map icons, letting you explore and discover things on your own. The upcoming game Myths of Gallantium seems to offer a similar experience, giving players the flexibility to play however they choose.
The Steam description for Myths of Gallantium doesn’t directly compare itself to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it shares a similar design approach. The game offers something for every player – combat, dungeons, building, crafting, trading, puzzles, and quests. Like Breath of the Wild, Myths of Gallantium prioritizes player freedom and exploration over a strict storyline. This encourages players to discover and interact with the world naturally, rather than following a predetermined path. This focus on choice makes the game world itself the central experience, where exploration feels meaningful because it’s about engaging with the world, not just completing tasks.
I’m really excited about the world in Myths of Gallantium! From what I’ve seen, Gallantia is huge, with multiple continents you can explore by building and sailing your own ship. You can be a noble trader, a fearsome pirate, or just a treasure hunter – the choice is yours! It reminds me a lot of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the best way. It’s not just about getting to a place, but about the joy of discovering things along the way. Like, in Breath of the Wild you might climb a mountain just to see what’s on the other side, and it sounds like Myths of Gallantium wants you to feel that same sense of curiosity and adventure while you’re sailing the open seas. The journey really seems like it’s going to be as fun as reaching your destination, and that’s awesome!
Myths of Gallantium Looks and Plays Like Runescape
While both Myths of Gallantium and Zelda: Breath of the Wild are open-world games, they differ significantly in how they look and how you play. Breath of the Wild lets you switch up weapons, and Tears of the Kingdom expands on that with the Fuse ability, but Myths of Gallantium offers much more freedom in character building. It features seven different skill trees – Knight, Hunter, Mage, Angel, Paladin, Rogue, and Summoner – and lets you combine up to two of them. This allows for a far greater range of unique playstyles compared to Breath of the Wild.
This game feels more like Runescape in terms of gameplay, but without traditional character classes. Like Runescape, you can develop any skills you want and define your own playstyle. Myths of Gallantium strikes a good balance between the freedom of Breath of the Wild and the flexibility of Runescape. Visually, it’s also closer to Runescape, with a more cartoonish style compared to Breath of the Wild.
For Now, Myths of Gallantium Remains a Dream
Despite initial excitement, the open-world RPG Myths of Gallantium seems to have been abandoned. The developer confirmed almost a year ago that personal issues halted progress, and there’s been no update since. Recently, another developer shared that Myths of Gallantium inspired their own game, prompting a somewhat bittersweet response from the original developer: a hope that their project would succeed where Myths of Gallantium didn’t. When a Reddit user asked why development stopped, the developer simply replied, “Life.”
It’s doubtful whether the game Myths of Gallantium will ever be released, and it’s looking increasingly unlikely. While the game still has a page on Steam, it seems the developer, Finale Games, might be waiting for a less busy time to resume work. However, Grant Oganyan, the head of Finale Games, announced in 2022 that he was stepping away from game development, and there haven’t been any updates about the game since. Despite this, many are still hoping Myths of Gallantium will eventually be released, as there’s always demand for games similar to Breath of the Wild.
