Help Small Creators Grow With YouTube’s New ‘Hype’ Feature

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that YouTube’s new ‘Hype’ feature is a breath of fresh air! For years, I’ve been rooting for small streamers and content creators who struggle to be seen amidst the sea of popular channels. This innovative mechanic seems to address that issue head-on, giving us gamers a direct impact on the success of our favorite underdogs.

YouTube introduced ‘Hype’, a brand-new system aimed at amplifying smaller content creators and streamers. By enabling their communities to support them, this mechanism aims to improve their visibility and discoverability. According to a recent announcement, Hype enables fans to have a share in the achievement of their favorite up-and-coming creators.

Initially designed, Hype is intended to assist small-scale YouTube streamers who have fewer than 500,000 subscribers in gaining visibility.

How Does Hype Work?

YouTube’s ‘Hype’ feature is pretty simple.

If you’re a fan of a smaller content creator (with fewer than 500,000 subscribers) and they release a new video, you can show your support by promoting the video, which will help boost its position in a virtual ranking system. The more excitement or attention a video generates, the higher it’ll climb up the leaderboard. If a streamer or content creator achieves a high enough rank, they’ll earn special badges to display on their videos as recognition for their success.

As a dedicated viewer, you’ll be given three opportunities each week to ‘hype’ your favorite videos, so choose wisely as you decide which ones deserve a little extra attention.

In the blog post discussing Hype, YouTube wrote:

Through Hype, our aim is to transform the watching experience into something interactive and exciting, fueled by mutual passion and dedication. This not only sparks viewer engagement but also offers content creators an effective new method to forge connections with their followers and expand their platforms.

Absolutely, a fresh and exciting feature wouldn’t be complete without an opportunity for monetization. With this in mind, YouTube will enable viewers to ‘buy extra boosts’ for content. However, it’s important to note that these purchases will primarily serve as another income source for creators rather than the platform itself, which could prove beneficial.

In my gaming world, I found out that over 50,000 channels in select nations received a massive boost from gamers like me, racking up an impressive 5 million distinct ‘hype’ votes!

The team hasn’t specified a release date yet for the global launch of the feature, however, it won’t be long before Hype becomes available in new regions.
