The Jackbox Naughty Pack review

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of party games that promise a good time but often fall flat. The Jackbox Naughty Pack, however, is an exception to the rule. It’s like a box of chocolates, but instead of milk and dark, you get a mix of raunchy humor and adult-themed fun.

Before we dive in, I’d like to emphasize the importance of carefully evaluating the group you plan to play The Jackbox Naughty Pack with. Spend a bit more time than I did assessing your companions.

The Jackbox collection offers party-style games that work optimally when played with a group of four or more participants. To join in, everyone just needs their mobile device, enters a code, and then participates in various activities on the screen of their preference. However, it’s important to note that this particular pack features a more adult or sexually-themed approach compared to typical party games. As a result, your 15-year-old son might create explicit content which could potentially be etched into your memory forever. So, I strongly advise caution when considering allowing him to play this game. Take my advice seriously.

To clarify, these three mini-games included in this pack could prove enjoyable under suitable conditions. Whether it’s for a mature gathering, a bachelor/bachelorette party, or simply a fun event among friends.

Kicking off with The Jackbox Party Pack’s Naughty Edition, we have the social game titled “Fakin’ It All Night Long”. This game revolves around a classic called “Fakin’ It”, where all players except one are given a suggestive prompt on screen and must respond accordingly. This could be through a thumbs up/down or by indicating an object in the room. The player without any task details, known as the ‘faker’, needs to think swiftly and act naturally to mimic the other players’ actions. After each round, everyone votes for who they believe is faking, while the ‘faker’ tries their best to blend in with the group.

Among all the games in this collection, this is the one I enjoy the most. Without delving into debates about the complexities of romantic encounters or interpretations of emojis, let me clarify that this game requires swift intellect and instant reflexes to outsmart your competitors. In my personal experience, it offers the most laughter.

In Dirty Drawful, players are presented with a new version of an earlier game concept, this time focusing on a more humorous and adult-oriented theme. Each competitor receives a suggestive drawing prompt (oh my, those memories!), which they must then guess the subject of, offering their own creative descriptions in private. The challenge lies in finding the original inspiration among the numerous, often absurd interpretations that can make even the most unclear drawings seem like doodles from a three-year-old.

In previous Jackbox packs, I’ve experienced the same issue as here: drawing on a phone feels clumsy at best and can quickly become slightly aggravating. While I understand that this is intended to be part of the fun, and not everyone will create something worthy of the Louvre, I personally find it challenging. I prefer a more refined control mechanism for my creative endeavors.

Finally comes Let Me Finish, which is a bit of an odd one. You are tasked with surreal question such as “where would the pubic hair be on this building?” or “which of of these seven radios would be most likely to have a leather kink?”. You then have to verbally face off against your opponent for twenty seconds to defend what is usually a very weird and disturbing point of view. It reminds me a little of the board game Balderdash as you commit to convincing others of your ramblings. It can be quite fun but is very reliant on the verbal skills of the contestants. It’s certainly not a game for those who feel anxious about public speaking.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack review

To sum it up, The Jackbox Naughty Pack is an entertaining collection, albeit somewhat limited with just three games instead of the typical five. It maintains its polished visuals and audio quality consistent with past releases, but the mature themes occasionally seem contrived, whether in the content or overall atmosphere. After a while, the frequent references to derriere slaps and eggplant emojis start to lose their humor.

It’s not entirely clear who this content is intended for since the “explicit” humor might be something that some players already enjoy independently. I personally don’t require encouragement to use explicit language, and I believe many others share this sentiment. However, it seems more restrictive compared to previous titles because a significant portion of the jokes are predetermined rather than being a result of individual humor.

As a devoted fan, I’d say the Jackbox Naughty Pack isn’t necessarily a must-have expansion for the entire Jackbox lineup, but it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The enjoyment you derive from it will largely depend on your preference for each game genre and perhaps even how much you ponder the sexuality attributed to inanimate objects – just something to keep in mind!
