Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Confirms Improvement Over Previous Game

As a seasoned gamer and flight simulator enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the news about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024‘s reduced install size has me soaring with excitement! The last game in the series was a marvel, but the mammoth file size was a bit of a hurdle for many, including myself. With this new update, I can now look forward to enjoying the game without worrying about running out of hard drive space or spending hours upon hours downloading the darn thing.

In contrast to its predecessor in the series, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is anticipated to take up less than half the storage space, approximately 30GB. This reduced install size implies that gamers playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will require a relatively smaller amount of free space on their Xbox or PC hard drives compared to earlier predictions.

The sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, the latest installment in this series, was unveiled alongside 29 other games and expansions during the Xbox Games Showcase in June. Keeping up with its reputation as a realistic flight simulator, the upcoming game is also expected to introduce over a dozen new mission types upon its release on November 19th.

Regarding the file size, a blog post from Xbox Wire on September 19 reveals that developers have managed to significantly reduce it by incorporating cloud streaming technology. This innovation allows for more of the game to be accessed without using too much storage space on consoles or PCs. Unlike before, intricate sections of the game won’t be directly installed onto your console or computer. Instead, the parts of the game that you’re currently exploring will be streamed to your device. This means that your console or PC won’t need to store detailed map data for areas you’re not actively playing in. This feature seems particularly useful given the new functionality in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which allows players to disembark their aircraft anywhere in the world and explore details up close on foot.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say that the previous installment in my favorite series gobbled up an impressive 130 gigabytes on my hard drive. That means the upcoming sequel is set to occupy less than a fourth of that space – a relief for storage-conscious gamers like me!

Even though the game isn’t set to release for a couple of months yet, enthusiasts of the series can hardly wait to play it. As an extra perk, the new edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator, specifically the 2024 version, will be available on Game Pass Ultimate from November 19, meaning that subscribers won’t have to pay anything extra to start playing it right away.
