God of War Ragnarok is Being Review Bombed Yet Again

Key Takeaways

  • The God of War Ragnarok PC port is being review bombed on Steam.
  • The negative reviews mainly focus on the game’s PlayStation account requirement.
  • Ragnarok was the target of a review bombing effort back in 2022 as well.

As someone who has been a loyal gamer since the days of 8-bit consoles and countless hours spent in arcades, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment when I see the current state of affairs surrounding God of War Ragnarok on Steam. While I’ve personally had an exceptional experience with the game on PC, it’s disheartening to see the negative reviews that have brought its overall rating down due to a PlayStation Network account requirement.

Critics are reporting that the newly launched PC version of God of War Ragnarok is being inundated with negative reviews. The highly anticipated game was a major hit on PlayStation consoles for 2022, available as a cross-generational title for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. For two years, PlayStation gamers have been able to immerse themselves in Kratos’ latest journey, but now PC users are finally getting the chance to join in on the excitement.

At its launch, God of War Ragnarok received widespread acclaim, often being called one of the greatest video games ever made. Given that the 2018 version of God of War was popular on PC, it’s not surprising that many PC gamers have eagerly anticipated the sequel. However, unlike Sony might have planned, the release of God of War Ragnarok on PC hasn’t run as smoothly as hoped.

Despite my personal enjoyment of God of War Ragnarok on PC, offering a smooth performance and exceptional experience, the game has stirred up controversy. Angry PC gamers have flooded its Steam page with unfavorable reviews, dragging down its overall score to “Mixed.” The primary complaint from PC gamers regarding God of War Ragnarok is that it demands players to possess a PlayStation Network account in order to play. For many PC gamers, this requirement seems both inconvenient and redundant, particularly for a single-player game like Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok is Getting Negative Reviews on Steam

God of War Ragnarok has garnered numerous positive reviews on Steam, with most users evaluating the game based on its actual content. However, the majority of negative comments appear to revolve around the necessity of a PSN account and the game’s substantial file size, which exceeds 100 GB on PC. Despite these concerns, Sony is unlikely to address them, so players planning to experience God of War Ragnarok on PC will need to create a PSN account and ensure they have ample storage space for the colossal game.

It’s not unheard of for God of War Ragnarok to experience review bombing. Upon its release, it seemed that some users on Metacritic deliberately gave it low scores in hopes that Elden Ring might have a higher chance of winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards. However, Ragnarok’s user score on Metacritic eventually recovered, and considering the same phenomenon is happening on Steam, there’s a good chance it will rebound there as well.
