Frostpunk 2: How to Place a Research Institute
Expand a Housing District
The initial move toward establishing a Research Institute involves an expansion of the Residential Area. It’s important to note that players can put up Buildings in numerous Districts once they have been developed. However, this rule doesn’t apply to Residential Areas. Luckily, expanding a Residential Area is quite straightforward, and here’s how enthusiasts should proceed:
- Click on a Housing District to make its information pane appear.
- Click on the arrows icon at the bottom of the information pane.
- Click on three tiles that are adjacent to the Housing District. Players may need to Frostbreak around their Housing District if three tiles are not available.
- Click on the checkmark that appears.
It costs 50
Heatstamps
and 50 Prefabs to expand a Housing District, and an expanded Housing District provides 5 additional Shelter. Additionally, a Housing District can be expanded a second time to further increase its Output and give it a second Building slot.
Build a Research Institute
After the growth of a Housing District, here’s how players can construct a Research Institute inside it:
- Click on the Building circle in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Select the Housing tab at the bottom of the screen, and click on Research Institute.
- Click on the pulsating cirlce in the expanded Housing District
Building a Research Institute requires 400 Workforce, 100 Heatstamps, and 50 Prefabs. To maintain its operation, you’ll need 400 Workforce continuously. Also, it consumes 20 units of Heat daily.
Once the Research Institute has been constructed, it will be visible on the information panel of the Housing District. Additionally, a fresh symbol will appear in the lower-right corner, serving as the gateway to the Idea Tree. Enthusiasts can utilize this tree to investigate new Building designs, Laws, and passive benefits. Players aiming to finish Frostpunk 2’s initial chapter should commence by researching an idea for additional Coal Mines.
