Sims fans have been eagerly awaiting the next big installment in the franchise for years. While many expect it to be called ‘The Sims 5,’ the big question is what the game will actually be like. Adding to the anticipation is ‘Project Rene,’ a project that Maxis and Electronic Arts have been hinting at for a while.
Thanks to fan feedback, Project Rene is now more clearly defined. Maxis announced in a recent blog post that the project has become a life-simulation game designed for mobile devices, with a strong focus on social interaction and collaboration.
It’s not the next big Sims title, but what is it?
Project Rene is NOT The Sims 5
Maxis and Electronic Arts recently shared an update about The Sims. They confirmed that they’ll continue to support The Sims 4 with new updates and content, meaning the game isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Many fans thought the ‘Royalty & Legacy’ expansion would be the last one for The Sims 4. However, a recent blog post suggests there may be more expansions to come.
This blog post covers all the key details about Project Rene, including its recent shift in focus towards creating multiplayer experiences on mobile devices.
Based on what players have been telling us, Project Rene is now centered around letting friends easily create and share together in a multiplayer world.
This isn’t a replacement for The Sims 4, and it’s a different game than any future detailed life simulation we might make. It’s a new way for Sims players to connect and play together, designed for those who want a more social experience within the Sims universe.
The team firmly believes that The Sims will always be primarily focused on single-player gameplay. This has been the foundation of the game since its original release nearly 26 years ago.
And again, those updates won’t stop flowing right into The Sims 4:
The heart of The Sims has always been a detailed, single-player life simulation where you have control over your character’s story and experiences. We’re not changing that! We’ll continue to support and update The Sims 4 to make it even better.
We don’t know when the next main Sims game will be released, and because the current version of The Sims 4 is successful as a free-to-play, constantly updated game, it could be quite a while before a new numbered title appears.
