The culmination of their efforts brings about the ZX8000, a character you’ll control in the game. When the malevolent scientist Badbert seeks to exploit the knowledge of our heroes for nefarious purposes, a platforming adventure unfolds. It is only the little robot with a vastly simulated emotional core that can thwart the day’s calamity.
Initially, navigating ZX8000 at its initial levels will prove quite straightforward, involving minimal jumps over spikes and lasers. However, you’ll soon notice that the controls in BZZZT offer a remarkable level of precision, which will become essential for maneuvering through intricate obstacles as the game progresses.
At the beginning of the game, our robot character has limited mobility, only able to jump and progress through levels. However, as you embark on your journey, you’ll find enhancements that drastically expand your initial skill set. While a double jump and air dash might not seem groundbreaking, they prove to be incredibly fun and rewarding to use in gameplay, making the rush towards the goal a lot more enjoyable.
One striking feature of the game BZZZT is the diverse challenges and adversaries that populate its levels. These stages are jam-packed with whirling blades, enemies shooting projectiles, and buttons triggering laser attacks. Despite their compact size, they offer a thrilling experience as each world concludes in an engaging boss battle. What sets these obstacles apart is their unique twists; while not entirely original concepts, they manage to keep the game feeling fresh till the very end.
Navigating each level in BZZZT should be manageable for experienced platformer players, but perfection is required to complete a level entirely. Each stage contains numerous golden bolts to collect, and only by gathering all of them within a tight time limit and reaching the goal will you have truly mastered it. Most time limits are set between 20-30 seconds, making repeated attempts less tedious due to minimal time wasted. Achieving enough perfect clears unlocks bonus stages, which are definitely worth exploring.
One aspect of BZZZT that really surprised me is the soundtrack, which is absolutely sensational.
