One Forgotten Resident Evil Spin-Off Would Be Perfect for a VR Release

One Forgotten Resident Evil Spin-Off Would Be Perfect for a VR Release

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the Resident Evil franchise has been a staple in my virtual escapades. From the heart-pounding terror of Resident Evil 7 to the nostalgic charm of the remade Resident Evil 4 on Meta Quest, Capcom’s VR ventures have consistently delivered chills and thrills.

The Resident Evil series has been quite successful in the realm of virtual reality. Pioneering the trend, Resident Evil 7 was initially released with PlayStation VR compatibility, enabling players equipped with a headset to immerse themselves completely in virtual reality during gameplay. In October 2021, the popular Resident Evil 4 made its debut on Meta Quest, and it remains one of the top-tier experiences for the headset even three years later. Most recently, both Resident Evil Village and the remake of Resident Evil 4 received free updates for PSVR2 last year.

It appears probable that Capcom will persist in exploring VR opportunities with the Resident Evil series. However, the next mainline installment or remake might not be released for some time. In the meantime, Capcom may delve into Resident Evil’s history to generate more VR content. One Resident Evil spin-off seems particularly fitting for a VR transformation, and its release could coincide perfectly.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Deserves a VR Remake Now More Than Ever

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles’ Gameplay Perfectly Suits VR

Back in November 2009, not long after my gaming buddy Resident Evil 5, I got my hands on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. This Wii light gun shooter was a blast! It had four extensive storylines for me to dive into, each one filled with blasting those classic Resident Evil monsters using either the Wii remote or the cool Wii Zapper that came with some editions of the game.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles VR Would Prepare Fans for The Rumored Code: Veronica Remake

Based on a claim made by the leaker Dusk Golem in May, it appears that Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica are the upcoming Resident Evil games to be remade by Capcom. As of September 14, 2024, this rumor seems to persist, with Dusk Golem suggesting that the remakes for Resident Evil 0 and Code: Veronica won’t be as extensive as last year’s Resident Evil 4 Remake.

If the next game in line is “Resident Evil – Code: Veronica”, it would be ideal if there was a VR remake of “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles” at that time. In “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles”, players can shoot their way through four different stories, and two of these stories revisit “Resident Evil 2” and “Resident Evil – Code: Veronica”. Since “Code: Veronica” isn’t as well-known, having it in a potential remake of “Darkside Chronicles” would be an excellent opportunity for fans to quickly catch up on the original story before any alterations in the forthcoming remake.

A Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Remake Would Also Bridge The Gap Between Other Entries

In two additional stories found within “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles”, the focus centers on “Operation Javier”, a military operation where series hero Leon S. Kennedy and Jack Krauser are dispatched to a South American village with the objective of capturing a former Umbrella Corporation associate. These specific missions directly link to the events of “Resident Evil 4” and were even referenced in last year’s remake. A reimagined version of “The Darkside Chronicles” would allow fans to relive that prequel experience themselves.
