Nickmercs Issues Statement on ARC Raiders Cheating Allegations

Nick Kolcheff, known online as Nickmercs, has addressed accusations of cheating in the game ARC Raiders. A viral clip showing his quick aim while defeating an enemy led some players to believe he was using an aimbot. Nick explained that he’s one of the few streamers who plays ARC Raiders on PC with a controller, and the impressive aim was simply due to the game’s strong aim assist feature.

Nickmercs is a well-known figure in the gaming world, especially among fans of streamers and content creators. He started as a professional Call of Duty player, gaining recognition during the popularity of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In 2019, he joined FaZe Clan, which helped launch his career to the next level. Now, he focuses on creating content for YouTube and Twitch, often streaming games like Battlefield and ARC Raiders.

Nickmercs Denies Cheating In ARC Raiders

It’s common for popular streamers, especially those with a background as professional gamers, to be accused of cheating. Nickmercs is now facing those accusations, this time while playing the game ARC Raiders. A video clip of him quickly defeating an enemy in ARC Raiders was shared online, and while the original poster simply asked for aiming tips, the post quickly gained attention and sparked numerous comments accusing Nickmercs of using cheats. Many users pointed out that his aim seemed impossible without assistance, with one saying their own aim assist doesn’t work that well.

The streamer has responded to accusations of cheating, firmly denying them. He stated during a recent livestream, as reported by Jake Lucky, that he’s been playing competitively for 20 years and would never cheat, especially not against an ARC robot. While he didn’t elaborate much, he suggested that aim assist might be more powerful on PC than on consoles. Historically, aim assist is usually stronger on consoles, but it appears to be reversed in the game ARC Raiders. Numerous others have supported the streamer, pointing out the significant strength of aim assist in the game, particularly when targeting ARC robots.

The game controller is designed to automatically lock onto the Hornet robot, but experienced players know the quickest way to defeat it is by destroying its rear rotors. That’s why you see Nick quickly switching his aim – he’s trying to force the game’s aim assist to target the rotors instead of the robot’s body, giving him a better shot.

Man, the cheating in ARC Raiders has been really frustrating lately. It’s gotten so popular that a ton of cheaters jumped in. Thankfully, the developers, Embark Studios, heard us and said they’re making big changes to how the game works and adding new ways to catch cheaters. They’ve already started handing out temporary bans, which is good, but a lot of us think they should just go straight to permanent bans to really get rid of the problem.

Today, the studio launched a major update for ARC Raiders, bringing the game to version 1.11.0 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Released on January 13th, the update addresses the powerful and often-criticized Trigger Nade, which had been overpowering players in PvP battles. Embark Studios adjusted the grenade’s damage so it’s strongest at the center of the blast and weaker further out. They also increased the time it takes for the grenade to explode, from 0.7 to 1.5 seconds.
