Ghost of Yotei, the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, coming 2025

As a longtime fan of Sucker Punch and their masterful work in the open-world genre, especially Ghost of Tsushima, I must say that the unveiling of Ghost of Yotei at last night’s State of Play left me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of exploring a new region of Japan, 300 years after Jin’s story, is nothing short of exhilarating.

At last night’s State of Play event, Sucker Punch unveiled their latest game titled Ghost of Yotei – a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima featuring a new main character. This upcoming title is set 300 years after the events of Jin’s story and follows Atsu in a fresh region of Japan that has been painstakingly crafted using the technology offered by the PlayStation 5. An exciting new trailer for this announcement was shared, and it’s clear that it promises an absolutely stunning visual experience.

In an update on the PlayStation blog, Senior Communications Manager Andrew Goldfarb explained that when they started creating a new Ghost game, their aim was to preserve the fundamental aspects of Ghost of Tsushima: immersing players as a nomadic samurai in Feudal Japan, providing ample opportunities for leisurely exploration, and showcasing the stunning visuals of the environment.

The article continues by revealing that the developers have an affinity for origin tales, and they’re keen on depicting a different character donning the ghost mask in a fresh setting during a distinct era. What makes this intriguing is their ambition to present something revolutionary, and based on the trailer, Ghost of Yotei appears to be quite extraordinary.

Today, instead of delving into the particulars of our tale, we’re ready to share some exciting details! Atsu’s adventure unfolds in the year 1603, over three centuries after the events depicted in Ghost of Tsushima. The narrative is set amidst the lands encircling Mount Yōtei, a colossal peak nestled within the core of Ezo, a region of Japan known as Hokkaido today. In 1603, this area was beyond the jurisdiction of Japan and presented vast grasslands, snowy tundras, and concealed perils. It’s a stark contrast to the structured samurai clans that inhabited Tsushima, and it serves as the backdrop for an original story we’re eager to share!
