Genesect is a rare Mythical Pokémon added to Pokémon Legends: Z-A through a downloadable expansion called the Mega Dimension. You’ll find it by completing a hidden Side Mission after finishing the main game. If you want to catch Genesect to fill out your Pokédex or add a strong Pokémon to your team, here’s where to look.
This guide will show you how to start and finish the Genesect side mission, catch Genesect, and effectively use its special attack. Here’s what you need to know.
Where to Find Genesect in Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension
Side Mission 191: Collecting Four Drives
I found this during Side Mission 191, where you collect four drives, in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC. You can actually start that mission once you finish Hyperspace Mission 12, ‘The Greatest Gift’.
Okay, so after I finally snagged Rayquaza in Hyperspace Mission 12, a new side quest popped up with that Secret TM Vendor. I went to talk to him, and he said he knows where to find Genesect! But, of course, he won’t just tell me. He wants me to buy four special Drives from him first, and I have to pay with Mega Shards. Here’s what he needs me to get:
| Genesect Drives | Price |
|---|---|
| Chill Drive | 540 Mega Shards |
| Douse Drive | 540 Mega Shards |
| Shock Drive | 540 Mega Shards |
| Burn Drive | 540 Mega Shards |
Each Drive costs 540 Mega Shards, so getting all four will require a total of 2,160 Mega Shards.

Once you’ve received all four drives from the seller, speak to them again and choose the “I’ve got the drives” option. They’ll then tell you they’ve pinpointed Genesect’s location on your map. To start the guidance system for this quest, open your map, select the Side Mission 191 entry, and press A. A marker will then appear on your map, guiding you to the location.
How to Catch Genesect in Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension
Genesect Location
In Wild Zone 13, touch the wall close to the entrance to create a new Hyperspace Distortion. Then, use a powerful 5-star Donut to travel to the Unknown Hyperspace Zone, where you’ll appear in an open field.
Even though Genesect is a high-level Pokemon (Level 200), it’s extremely vulnerable to Fire-type attacks. You can easily defeat it by using strong Fire-type Pokemon such as Mega or Primal forms.
Don’t worry if you don’t catch Genesect right away – it won’t stop you from completing the quest. If Genesect is defeated, the Vendor will reappear and reset the battle so you can try again.
Once you capture Genesect, you’ll finish Side Mission 191 and receive these rewards:
- ₽30,000
- EXP Candy XL x5
How to Use Chill, Douse, Shock, and Burn Drives for Genesect in Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension
Genesect’s Chill, Douse, Shock, and Burn Drives Explained
The Chill, Douse, Shock, and Burn Drives change the type of Genesect’s special attack, Techno Blast. For instance, if Genesect holds the Burn Drive, Techno Blast becomes a Fire-type move. If it holds the Douse Drive, the move becomes Water-type, and this pattern applies to the other Drives as well.
- Chill Drive: Changes Techno Blast to become an Ice-type Move
- Douse Drive: Changes Techno Blast to become a Water-type Move
- Shock Drive: Changes Techno Blast to become an Electric-type Move
- Burn Drive: Changes Techno Blast to become a Fire-type Move
If Genesect does not have any of the four Drives equipped, Techno Blast will be a Normal-type Move.
