Hytale is a large and expansive game filled with diverse environments, creatures, and secrets. You can definitely enjoy it on your own, but it’s even more enjoyable – and easier – with friends. Even though it’s still in early access, Hytale allows players to create private lobbies for playing with a small group. If you’d like to set up a server for your friends, here’s how to do it.
How to Play Hytale with Friends Only
To set up a private Hytale server for you and your friends, you’ll start by creating a new world and launching it in singleplayer mode. After the game loads, follow these steps:
- Press Escape.
- Select the Online Play option
- Set the Allow Other Players to Join option to On.
- Set a password (optional).
- Set the Include Password in Share Code to On (also optional).
- Press the Save button.
- Once the game generates a Share Code, click Copy to Clipboard.
- Give the Share Code to your friends.
This setting lets others join your single-player world using a special code. Once enabled, you and your friends can play together! Keep in mind they can only join when you are actively running the game.
Your Share Code contains your computer’s IP address, as noted in the game. Please only share this code with people you trust, as unauthorized access could leave your computer vulnerable to hacking.
How to Join Friends via Share Code
- Go to the main menu.
- Select the Servers button.
- Press the Join Via Code button.
- Get a friend’s Share Code and paste it into the box that appears.
You should be able to join your friend’s server easily, as long as both of your internet connections and network setups are working correctly. If you can’t join using the code, try the ‘Direct Connect’ option instead.
If you’re having trouble connecting due to network issues, you might need to configure port forwarding on your router, specifically for port 5520. The exact steps for this vary depending on your router’s make and model. Another option is to use programs like Hamachi or Radmin, which create secure connections through the internet.
Hosting Dedicated Servers
So, if I want to run a Hytale world that’s always open for anyone to join, I’ll need to rent a dedicated server from a hosting provider. There are a bunch of good ones out there that support Hytale, so I just need to pick one I trust. Once I’ve got my server set up, they’ll give me an IP address. I’ll copy that address and then paste it back into the game – easy peasy!
To add a server, click the ‘Add Server’ button in the Servers menu and paste in the server’s address. Give it a name so you can easily identify it. Once it appears in the Servers list, you can join. Don’t forget to share the server address with your friends!
