A player and UI designer for ARC Raiders has come up with a clever idea to dramatically improve how players manage their items and navigate menus, addressing a major source of frustration for the community. Because ARC Raiders is an extraction shooter with a lot of items, weapons, and gear, the current user interface often makes players spend more time in the hub area, Speranza, than actually fighting enemies on the surface.
Despite still having room for improvement, ARC Raiders has proven to be a major win for both Embark Studios and Nexon. Nexon reports that the game has sold 2.4 million copies this year, bringing the total sales to 12.4 million. Reviews from both players and critics are overwhelmingly positive – it currently has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam and an 86 on Metacritic. The game is also incredibly popular, recently reaching over 960,000 concurrent players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Many predicted a difficult launch for Embark’s second game, given its release between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but players are clearly excited for a new experience. ARC Raiders has impressively retained 91% of its initial player base on Steam.
ARC Raiders Player Creates Genius UI Concept
Since its launch late last year, Embark Studios has consistently updated ARC Raiders. Players are especially hoping for improvements to the game’s user interface. With so much equipment and gear to manage, fans have offered lots of suggestions, and one player took it a step further. Reddit user PEX_UX, a professional UI designer, praised Embark’s existing UI, calling it surprisingly easy to use for such a complex game. They then shared nine ideas for changes, offering constructive feedback to help make the interface even better and more efficient for players.
I’m so excited about the latest updates! The developers have really listened to what we, the community, have been asking for. One of the coolest things is that we’ll finally be able to see what gear our teammates have equipped before a match, which should help us coordinate better as a team. Plus, they’re letting us save and quickly switch to custom loadouts with just one click – that means less time fiddling with inventory and more time getting into the action on Topside! You can find all the details in the post below.
Players are really happy with the recent UI updates! Many have said the new designs are exactly what the game needed, with one player commenting, “I love it. These are the kinds of features you’d expect in a game like this, and honestly, my biggest complaint about the game right now is gone.”
The future of ARC Raiders is uncertain, but recent leaks hint at a big update arriving next week, potentially introducing a new “Toxic Swamp” map feature. Embark previously launched the “Cold Snap” event in December, which brought freezing temperatures and forced players to find cover. Now that Cold Snap is over, it’s been removed, but data found within the game suggests the new Toxic Swamp modifier could be available as early as January 20th.
