Merge Games is Closing Down After 15 Years

As a gamer who has been on this journey for more than two decades, the news of Merge Games shutting down after 15 years feels like the end of an era. I remember the thrill of discovering some of their hidden indie gem releases, games like Dead Cells and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge that brought a breath of fresh air to my gaming experience.

Merge Games has announced that it will be closing down after 15 years of publishing games.

The announcement came earlier today on X (formerly Twitter), which read,

“Hello! After 15 years, Merge Games is closing down.

Originally operating out of a small, claustrophobic attic, our team has expanded to a compact yet versatile group of 22 individuals. We’ve had the pleasure of showcasing countless indie masterpieces on shelves worldwide, an experience we’ve cherished every step of the way!

Our success wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm of everyone who loves independent gaming – from our dedicated developers right down to you, our passionate players!

Should you encounter an individual from Merge, remember that they are a truly remarkable person who has consistently given their best efforts.

Thank you for many years of gaming!”

From the start, Merge Games has been responsible for publishing numerous games such as Dead Cells, Small, Survive the Wilds, Bramble: The Mountain King, and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, among others. Yet, due to its recent shutdown, all future releases that were previously under Merge Games will now be handled by its parent company, Maximum Entertainment.
