Does Throne and Liberty Have Classes? – Answered

As a seasoned gamer with decades of MMORPG experiences under my belt, I must say that Throne and Liberty has caught my eye with its innovative approach to character building. The weapon-based system is a breath of fresh air, allowing for a level of customization that traditional class systems can’t match.

When diving into a fresh role-playing game, particularly an MMORPG, you usually begin by scrutinizing every class. Much like many others, I presume you have your preferred choice, but considering experimenting with a completely novel class for this adventure. This time, there’s no need to worry. Unlike traditional MMORPGs, Throne and Liberty doesn’t rely on classes; instead, it adopts the approach of the New World by emphasizing weapon configurations. Here’s an overview of how it operates!

Throne and Liberty Uses Weapons Not Classes

In Throne and Liberty, unlike other MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2 that have a traditional class system, it mirrors the original launch of New World—not the upcoming Aeternum revamp—by enabling me to choose a weapon type first, then progress along a skill tree tailored for each weapon.

You have seven choices:

  • Sword & Shield
  • Greatsword
  • Daggers
  • Longbow
  • Crossbow
  • Wand
  • Staff

It’s uncertain if it varies for female characters (I’ll check!), but initially, male characters start off by playing through the tutorial and prologue with the Greatsword. Later on, they can explore various weapons in the game at the training ground located in the first town. This setup provides an opportunity to experiment with different playstyles and builds without immediately engaging in combat.

Best Weapon Type for Beginners in Throne and Liberty

In combat situations, you have the ability to use two different types of weapons concurrently, switching between them as desired. For starters, I advise you to choose two weapons that suit your style, master their unique characteristics, and get comfortable using them consistently. For beginners, I suggest considering the following options:

  • Sword & Shield: The old-school sword and board style provides exceptional defense and survivability, allowing new players to throw themselves wildly into combat without fear of dying too early. You can use your shield to deal severe damage and raise defense while protecting party members in group-based content.
  • Staff: One would expect the Wand weapon archetype to provide damage-based spells, but it’s the Staff in Throne and Liberty that wields the elements with area-of-effective and explosive magic attacks, including fire, lightning, and frost.

Hey there, fellow gaming enthusiast! As someone who’s been hooked on MMORPGs for a while now, I thought you might want to hear about an upcoming game that’s got me pretty excited – New World Aeternum, set to drop in October. Let me share some juicy details with you!
