Shroud, a popular Twitch streamer and former pro player of games like Valorant and Counter-Strike, has strongly criticized the early access release of Hytale. After a long and difficult development process, the Minecraft-inspired sandbox game launched this month, but Shroud doesn’t think it’s ready for players and has said he won’t be playing it for at least two years.
Work on Hytale started way back in 2015, but it wasn’t officially announced until 2018 with a popular trailer that gained over 60 million views and sparked a lot of online discussion. Hypixel Studios continued developing the game for several years, and in 2020, they were acquired by Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends. Unfortunately, things took a turn last year when Riot unexpectedly canceled Hytale and stopped development. The studio explained that the game was simply too ambitious in scope, and Riot worried it might never be completed.
Shroud Won’t Play Hytale for 2 Years
As many fans know, Hytale was rescued late last year when the original founder of Hypixel Studios bought the game back from Riot Games. It launched in early access earlier this month, but it hasn’t impressed everyone. During a recent livestream, popular content creator Shroud quickly dismissed questions about whether he planned to play. He responded to a viewer saying he might consider it “in like two years,” but added that while the game has a good base, it’s currently not ready for players.
Although the game is currently playable, it’s still in early access. Hypixel Studios clearly warns potential buyers on their website that the game is under active development and will have bugs and changes. As expected with early access, players have found issues, but Hypixel Studios has been quick to respond with hotfixes and patches to improve stability and fix major problems.
I’m really excited about Hytale, but right now it’s only available on PC – you can’t buy it on Steam or the Epic Games Store yet. The creators, Hypixel, do plan to bring it to consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is awesome! They’ve said it’s a big job getting everything to work on consoles, so there’s no release date announced. They’re focusing on getting the core game solid first, but they’ve confirmed a console version is definitely in the works for the future!
Okay, so after what felt like forever, Hytale is finally out, and it’s awesome! The launch was huge, and Hypixel just announced they’ve got enough funding to keep working on the game for the next two years, which is amazing news. That means we can expect a ton of updates, improvements, and hopefully get closer to the full 1.0 release. I’m really excited to see where they take this!
