Cheaters in Deadlock Can Now be Turned Into a Frog Mid-Game

As a long-time gamer who’s seen my fair share of cheaters in multiplayer games, I must say, Valve’s latest move with Deadlock is nothing short of genius! Turning cheaters into frogs before banning them? Now that’s a creative way to teach ’em a lesson they won’t soon forget. It’s like being grounded for life, but in the game world. I can’t wait to see the reactions of these cheaters when they transform into their hoppy selves!

In the latest update for Deadlock, it’s been announced that those caught cheating will instead be transformed into frogs before receiving a ban.

The recent update, originating from Deadlock’s patch notes, indicates that Valve has implemented an initial anti-cheat mechanism within the game. Here’s how it works: If a player is caught cheating during a game, other players will be presented with two options: either to ban the offender immediately and conclude the match or to keep them as a frog in the game for the remainder of the session, followed by a subsequent ban.

Valve refers to the new anti-cheat mechanism as an initial measure aimed at identifying and preventing cheaters, currently operating at a cautious detection setting. The team is also developing a version 2 anti-cheat system. As for the intriguing question about transforming cheaters into frogs in the updated system, it remains to be seen if this feature will carry over.

Although Valve mentioned that the update would be released within a few days, user @poggu__ on X platform (previously known as Twitter) has managed to capture some video clips showcasing its appearance.

Even though the game Deadlock is currently in its pre-release phase known as ‘early access’, it has managed to draw an unprecedented number of 171,000 players on Steam, and daily concurrent peaks averaging approximately 100,000 as of late.

At the moment I’m writing this, Valve hasn’t publicly declared the exact launch date, but speculations point towards a potential release in 2025.
