Deadlock Was The Top Game On Steam In August

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that Deadlock‘s rise to the top of Steam’s monthly active users list has left me quite intrigued. Having dabbled in every MOBA from DOTA 2 to League of Legends, I find myself drawn to this relatively unknown entity.

For the month of August, Deadlock held the number one spot among games with the most active users on Steam, as reported by Circana through Mat Piscatella.

Although many people were aware of it and more than 18,000 individuals had been playing it, Deadlock didn’t get an official unveiling by Valve until later in the month. Afterward, the game reached record-breaking numbers with over 170,000 players simultaneously online while still being in an invite-only alpha stage.

Currently, the game is still in an exclusive mode, accommodating over 91,000 players simultaneously. No public notice has been made about expanding player access or transitioning into a beta phase.

What is Deadlock?

If you’re not already familiar, Deadlock is an action-packed team game featuring six players per side, similar to a hero shooter. In essence, it resembles Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs) such as DOTA 2, Smite, and League of Legends. The battlefield consists of four paths where teams engage in combat with automated minions that drop souls which can be collected to enhance your character during the gameplay.

In the present version of this game, you’ll find a total of 19 diverse characters to select. These characters possess unique skills that vary across roles such as healing, assassination, and tanking. This is all typical for a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game.
