How To Increase Storage Capacity in Hytale

In Hytale, if you need more storage, you’ll need larger chests. These bigger chests let you safely store more valuable resources, like Thorium, Cobalt, and Gold, and collect even more materials. But, can players actually make these larger chests themselves?

This guide shows Hytale players how to build larger chests for better item storage. This will help you save space and craft things more quickly.

How To Create Large Chests In Hytale

In Hytale, players will find that all chests, no matter what they’re made of, have the same amount of storage space. This could be an issue for players who like to collect lots of items, as the game has many crafting recipes that require a large number of materials.

All chests are the same size – a single cube – and can hold 18 units each. Simply stacking chests won’t work, as workbenches can’t access items in chests that aren’t directly on the ground.

To increase your chest storage while still using the automatic resource system, place two chests of the same type right next to each other. Position them carefully so they combine into one larger chest. As shown in the image, you can use chests made from different materials, like hardwood and softwood, to achieve this.

Placing two chests side-by-side effectively doubles their storage space (from 18 to 36 slots), allowing players to store more materials and have them readily available for use in crafting.

Basic chests upgrade to become Double Chests, Iron Chests become Large Iron Chests, and so on. You can’t combine more than two chests at a time. If a player tries to combine four chests into a single space, they’ll end up with two Double Chests stacked on top of each other, as illustrated in the image below.

This will prevent crafting stations from automatically recognizing items placed on the chest above it.

When building your base, be careful to use the same flooring material throughout. If you place chests on a different type of floor than your crafting stations, those stations won’t be able to see the resources inside the chests. Luckily, there are mods available on CurseForge that can fix this issue, so it’s worth checking them out.

Just so you know, the type of material used to build a chest in Hytale doesn’t change how much it can store. It does affect how long the chest lasts. If your base comes under attack (though raids aren’t in the game yet), chests made of stronger materials like Hardwood, Redwood, or Azurewood will be more durable and last longer.

Keep in mind that Hytale is currently in Early Access, meaning things are still subject to change with future updates. We’ll keep this guide updated if the way chests work – specifically, how much they can hold based on the materials inside – is adjusted.
