Froslass Finally Gets the Mega Evolution It Deserves

According to leaks circulating on social media, it appears that Pokemon Legends: Z-A could potentially rectify a decade-old issue by introducing a new Mega Evolution for one part of a specific Pokemon evolutionary pair. Since the return of Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there’s been much talk about which Pokemon might receive new evolved forms. However, among the leaked list of Pokemon receiving new Mega Evolutions, one particular Pokemon has drawn attention as a long-awaited candidate for an evolution upgrade.

Among the many Mega Evolutions introduced in games like Pokemon X and Y, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Game Freak managed to keep a balance with these new forms by providing a Mega Evolution for each starter Pokemon within their respective trios, as well as potential counterparts or duos such as Gardevoir and Gallade, Scizor and Steelix. However, some Mega Evolution pairs were left unbalanced when the mechanic was discontinued. Now, it seems that the game Legends: Z-A is filling in these remaining gaps for these duos.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Might Be Introducing Mega Froslass At Long Last

Initially left out when Mega Evolution was first introduced in Pokemon X and Y, Glalie joined the group of Pokemon that gained Mega Evolved forms later, specifically with the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014. Similar to Gardevoir and Gallade, Glalie is one of two evolutions for Snorunt, with Froslass introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl back in 2007. Unlike its counterpart, the Ralts line, which received Mega Evolutions for both its final stages, the Gen 6 games did not provide a Mega Evolution for Froslass, for reasons that remain unknown.

If the leaked list turns out to be accurate, then the Mega Evolutions in Legends: Z-A may honor Froslass, a character from Diamond and Pearl games, more than ten years later. Out of the 27 Pokemon rumored to receive Mega Evolutions (from Generation 1 to 8), Froslass is the only one suspected from the Gen 4 games. The possible modifications in Froslass’s design, type, abilities, and so on following a Mega Evolution are yet to be discovered if the leak is true. However, it could indicate that the Snorunt line will finally have a complete set.

The Evidence For Pokemon Legends: Z-A Introducing Mega Froslass

Although it’s important to approach these rumors with a healthy dose of skepticism, the fact that the leaked Mega Evolutions list for “Legends: Z-A” originated from reliable sources like Centro Leaks and Froslass being the sole Ice-type among the twenty-seven Pokemon could suggest a positive outlook for Mega Froslass. Moreover, “Pokemon Legends: Arceus” honored Froslass’s Pokedex entries and yokai folklore inspiration through the side quest “Traces Of A Lost Village.” Given that “Legends: Z-A” is a continuation of the “Pokemon Legends” series, it might be paying tribute to its predecessor and Froslass by incorporating the return of Mega Evolutions and the missing link in the Snorunt line.

The Evidence Against Pokemon Legends: Z-A Introducing Mega Froslass

Although granting a Mega Evolution to Froslass could rectify a longstanding disparity with Glalie, it appears that other Pokemon duos like Slowbro and Slowking, who each have separate evolutions from the same ancestor and one-sided Mega Evolutions, aren’t included in the leaked list. For instance, while both Slowpoke evolvees received unique forms in the DLC of Pokemon Sword and Shield, only Slowbro has a Mega Evolution, leaving Slowking out of Legends: Z-A’s leaked list. This might suggest that Legends: Z-A is restricting new Mega Evolutions or the leaked list is inaccurate, creating uncertainty about whether Mega Froslass will be included or not.
