New Steam MMORPG is Already a Big Hit

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and a soft spot for MMORPGs, I must say that the hype around Throne and Liberty is palpable. With its impressive concurrent player count on Steam just days ahead of its worldwide release, it’s clear that this game is resonating with gamers across the globe.

The game titled “Throne and Liberty” is drawing a significant number of players on Steam even before its global launch, as the data indicates. At this moment, gamers primarily from the Americas, Europe, and Japan are able to play the PC version of “Throne and Liberty” through Valve’s platform, yet its popularity is soaring rapidly despite these restrictions.

Created by NCSoft, the game titled “Throne and Liberty” is a free-to-play MMORPG that utilizes Unreal Engine 4. This title debuted in South Korea last December, and it expanded to multiple other countries in July. The global version of “Throne and Liberty“, assisted by Amazon Games, is scheduled for release on October 1 and will be accessible on PCs and ninth-generation consoles. Already, this upcoming build has garnered significant popularity.

The multiplayer game “Throne and Liberty” has hit a record high of 54,812 simultaneous players on Steam since it entered early access. This data comes from the analytics tracker, SteamDB. Although the game is free, those who buy any of its early access packs can start playing ahead of time starting September 26. On Steam, the least expensive pack that guarantees early access goes for $39.99, while the priciest bundle is a mere penny short of $100. The high-end pack comes with various morphs, outfits, titles, and an emote. It also includes 1,000 Lucent, the game’s premium in-game currency, which can be used to purchase items, as well as “Throne and Liberty“‘s premium battle pass.

In 2011, NCSoft, famous for games like Guild Wars and Lineage, unveiled an early version of Throne and Liberty. Originally planned as a follow-up to the classic Lineage game, it was rebranded as Throne and Liberty after a reportedly underwhelming closed beta testing phase. To ensure sufficient time for implementing crucial updates and features, Amazon Games postponed the global launch of Throne and Liberty from September 17 to October 1.

Amazon Game Studios announced in May that they have begun developing an open-world MMO set in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit.” This as-yet-unnamed game will bring the stories from these beloved literary works to PC and console platforms. Previously, Amazon had attempted to create an MMO based on “The Lord of the Rings,” but that project was eventually scrapped. Meanwhile, South Korean studio NCSoft is also working on multiple MMORPGs, including “Project LLL,” a sci-fi shooter, and a sequel to their long-running “Aion” series. Apart from the global version of “Throne and Liberty,” NCSoft also released “Battle Crush” in 2024, a 30-player battle game.
