Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie to Stream on Netflix After Theatrical Release

After playing in theaters and becoming available to own, the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie will be available to stream only on Netflix.

Okay, so we don’t know much about the new Legend of Zelda movie yet, except it’s supposed to come out in May 2027. But here’s the cool part: because of a deal between Sony and Netflix, it looks like we’ll be watching it on Netflix! It’s not just Zelda either – Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and those Beatles movies Sam Mendes is directing will be Netflix exclusives too. Pretty big news for us gamers and movie fans!

Sony Pictures Television’s Paul Littmann, Executive Vice President of Global Distribution, announced that the company is excited to expand its relationship with Netflix through a new agreement. He highlighted the deal as a natural progression of their existing partnership.

We’ve always had a strong relationship with Netflix, and this new agreement—where they can stream our movies shortly after they’re in theaters—strengthens that partnership even further. It proves people around the world still enjoy seeing our films in theaters first. This deal also highlights our ability to remain independent and find creative solutions that benefit everyone involved – our filmmakers, audiences, and partners like Netflix.

What We Know So Far About the Legend of Zelda Movie

Official photos of Zelda and Link from the upcoming movie were released in November 2025. Bo Bragason will portray Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. Although filming started in 2025, the movie won’t be out for over a year, so details about the cast, story, and other aspects are still being kept under wraps. There are rumors that an actor from the Apple TV+ show Severance might be joining the film.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and to celebrate, a new LEGO set is being released. You can find details about it here.
