In Hytale, you’ll take damage from many sources, so you need ways to recover health. While food helps, it’s not ideal during a fight. When you’re swarmed by enemies, you’ll want fast healing. But for minor injuries, a slower, consistent recovery might be better.
Okay, so I’m going to break down all the healing stuff in Hytale. I’ll help you figure out which items are best to have on hand for different situations, so you’re always prepared when things get tough!
How to Heal in Hytale
You primarily recover health by eating food or drinking potions. How much health you regain depends on the quality of what you consume, with the most effective healing items generally being the hardest to create.
In Hytale, you’ll find a healing totem that slowly restores health to players nearby – we’ll cover the details of how it works later on.
Best Healing Items
Currently, the most effective ways to restore health in Hytale are with salads, pies, and Healing Potions. These crafted items provide the highest healing rates of any consumables in the game, and thankfully, they aren’t too difficult to create once you’ve learned the recipes.
Best Food Items in Hytale
Both Caesar Salad and any of the pies will restore 15% of your health when you eat them. They also give you a temporary boost to both your health and stamina. We suggest making pies, though, because cheese – a key ingredient in Caesar Salad – can be difficult to find right now until we add more animal farming options.
You can buy pie recipes from the Rootling Merchant in the Forgotten Temple. The recipes they sell change, so check back if you don’t see the one you want right away. Once you have a recipe, you’ll need to grow all the ingredients on your farm in Hytale to make it.
Pumpkin Pie is generally simple to bake, but if you have extra meat, Meat Pie is a good option. To make Meat Pie, you’ll need Salt, which you can obtain by placing fish traps in the water.
How to Make Healing Potions in Hytale
Potions and food both recover health, but they work differently. Potions are much better to use during fights because they quickly restore a large amount of health, and you’ll regain even more if you aren’t damaged right after drinking one. Food heals a small amount – like 15% with high-quality pies or salads – and provides a slow, steady health recovery instead of a quick boost.
To make Healing Potions, you’ll need the following key ingredients:
- Wild Berries
- Bloodcap Mushrooms
- Blood Leaves
- Empty Potion Bottles
I’ve noticed wild berries are pretty easy to come by! And get this – you can actually plant your own berry bush that keeps giving! You can buy one from the Rootling Merchant over at the Forgotten Temple, which is awesome because you don’t have to keep searching for them!
You can find Bloodcap Mushrooms and Blood Leaves in forests during the autumn season, but they only grow at night. If you discover the recipes, you can create their spores or seeds. However, you’ll need a fully upgraded Farmer’s Workbench to actually craft them.
You can create Empty Potion Bottles by smelting Sand blocks in a Furnace. Keep in mind that when you drink a potion, the bottle is used up and cannot be recovered.
Lesser Healing Potions quickly restore 15% of your health, with an additional 30% recovery over the next 5 seconds. Greater Healing Potions offer a more significant boost, instantly restoring 25% health and then another 50% over 5 seconds.
The Healing Totem
Healing Totems are items you can throw that create an area of steady, gradual healing. Everything within that area will regain about 38 health over the totem’s lifespan. While the healing amount isn’t huge, Healing Totems are very useful because you can make more of them, providing a way to recover health without using up valuable resources. You can craft them at an Arcanist’s Workbench with the following materials:
- 20 Thorium Ingot
- 50 Essence of Life
- 10 Greater Healing Potions
These are quite expensive to use, but they can be effective. Keep in mind you can only deploy one at a time, and surprisingly, they’ll also restore health to your opponents! If you have a lot of health, simply using food or a potion to heal will be faster and more worthwhile.
