A highlight of Dragon Ball Super has been the unique new forms each major character has achieved. After Goku mastered Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power, Gohan and Piccolo also gained powerful new transformations to keep up with the series’ escalating power levels. Most recently, in the Granolah Saga, Vegeta unlocked his own form – Ultra Ego – to match Goku’s strength.
Currently, Ultra Ego Vegeta is more powerful than Ultra Instinct Goku, based on pure strength. Vegeta even defeated Goku in their base forms at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, briefly making him the strongest Saiyan after Gohan. However, Ultra Ego has significant weaknesses, and the characters in Dragon Ball Super are now stronger than ever before.
7. Orange Piccolo Has a Real Chance at Beating Ultra Ego Vegeta
The core idea behind Dragon Ball is that characters consistently get stronger, with each new power-up surpassing the last. Akira Toriyama specifically wanted Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to bring Piccolo back to the level of Goku and Vegeta, which led to his powerful Orange Piccolo transformation. Piccolo even wonders if Goku and Vegeta could defeat Cell Max on their own, though he hasn’t witnessed Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form yet.
Although Ultra Ego Vegeta seems more powerful than Orange Piccolo based on their energy levels, Piccolo could still win. This wouldn’t be the first time Piccolo has exceeded Vegeta’s strength – he was stronger at the end of the Frieza Saga and during the Cell Saga as well. Because Piccolo is a more strategic fighter, he might be able to wear Vegeta down and win, even without being as inherently powerful.
6. Ultra Ego Vegeta Wasn’t Strong Enough To Finish Gas Off Himself
Because of a wish Elec made on the Dragon Balls, his brother Gas briefly became the most powerful being in the Dragon Ball universe. Goku and Granolah could only beat him by carefully planning their attacks, but even after that, Gas returned even stronger. Ultimately, it was Black Frieza who defeated Gas for good with a quick and decisive attack. Vegeta also struggled significantly in his own fight against Gas.
Vegeta’s Ultra Ego gets more powerful as he battles and takes hits, but Gas’s strength increases whenever anyone gets stronger than him due to Elec’s wish. Vegeta fights well at first, but he overexerts himself, running out of energy before he can finish the fight. He even loses his Ultra Ego transformation right when he’s about to land a powerful attack on Gas. Ultimately, Ultra Ego isn’t a reliable enough form to defeat an opponent like Gas.
5. Granolah Just Barerly Manages to Beat Ultra Ego Vegeta
Vegeta consistently loses throughout the Granolah Saga. Even with his new Ultra Ego transformation, he doesn’t manage to win a single fight. He fares no better against Granolah than he did against Gas. Both opponents achieved immense power by wishing on the Dragon Balls to become the strongest in the universe, sacrificing much of their lifespan in the process. This makes Granolah one of the most powerful characters ever seen in Dragon Ball.
Watching the fight between Granolah and Vegeta was really interesting. Vegeta just went all out with pure power and aggression, while Granolah was much more calculated, carefully chipping away at Vegeta’s strength. It actually pushed Granolah to unlock the full potential of his left eye, making him incredibly dangerous. Eventually, Granolah managed to gain the upper hand, stopping the fight before it could reach its peak and lead into the battle with Gas.
4. Ultra Ego Vegeta’s Got Nothing on Gohan Beast
Currently, Gohan Beast is the most powerful hero in Dragon Ball Super who doesn’t rely on fusion. After Piccolo seemingly sacrificed himself in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan unlocked his full potential and transformed into his new Beast form. He then defeated Cell Max and traveled to Beerus’ Planet to train with Goku. During their fight, Gohan Beast proved his strength by knocking Goku out of his Ultra Instinct state, solidifying his position as the strongest Saiyan in the series.
Although Vegeta’s Ultra Ego is more powerful than Goku’s Ultra Instinct, he wouldn’t stand a chance against Gohan in his Beast form right now. Gohan Beast fights with the same intensity as Ultra Ego, but without any of the weaknesses that form has. The battle at the end of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103 subtly confirms Gohan is the stronger fighter. He’s the only one besides Broly still standing and appears to have taken the least amount of damage, while Vegeta is clearly knocked out.
3. Black Frieza Defeated Ultra Ego Vegeta With a Single Hit
Even though Gohan Beast is currently the most powerful hero in Dragon Ball Super, Black Frieza is the strongest mortal being. He discovered a forgotten Hyperbolic Time Chamber while traveling through different universes and spent years training in secret, eventually achieving his Black form. Because Frieza wasn’t in Universe 7 during this time, the wishes made by Granolah and Gas to become the strongest in the universe didn’t affect him.
Black Frieza unexpectedly appears at the conclusion of the Granolah Saga and easily defeats Gas, then swiftly knocks out both Vegeta and Goku with a single blow. He spares them only because they are significantly weaker than himself. The manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero reveals that Goku and Vegeta are continuing to train in preparation for a rematch with Black Frieza, but they must become much more powerful to have any hope of winning.
2. Vegeta Still Has a Long Way To Go Before He’s On Beerus’ Level
Ultra Ego is essentially Vegeta’s way of honoring Beerus. The Granolah Saga starts with Beerus gifting Vegeta a God of Destruction earring and culminates in Vegeta achieving a form heavily inspired by his training with Beerus. Unlike Ultra Instinct, which angels created for themselves, Ultra Ego is a technique developed by Gods of Destruction specifically for the purpose of destruction.
Despite Vegeta’s impressive new Ultra Ego form, he still isn’t as powerful as Beerus. Beerus remains the strongest God of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super, and consistently stays ahead of both Vegeta and Goku, no matter how much stronger they become. While Vegeta likely won’t surpass Beerus at this point, Ultra Ego does bring him closer to Beerus’s level.
1. Vegito is Tied With Gogeta as the Strongest Suepr Saiyan & Character in Dragon Ball
It makes sense that a character with Vegeta’s power and Goku’s power would be incredibly strong, even stronger than Vegeta himself. Both Vegito and Gogeta are created when Goku and Vegeta fuse, combining all of their strengths into one unbelievably powerful fighter. Vegito is formed using the Potara earrings, and at one point was the most powerful character in Dragon Ball Z. He reappeared during the Goku Black Saga, nearly defeating Fused Zamasu before the fusion’s time limit ran out because of Vegito’s immense power.
Vegito is a unique and incredibly strong character. The Potara earrings, which fuse Goku and Vegeta, can only maintain his form for a short time, particularly when he transforms into Super Saiyan Blue. Despite this limitation, even in his base Super Saiyan form, Vegito is powerful enough to defeat Ultra Ego Vegeta. The same applies to Gogeta, who is created through the fusion dance.
