Fans of Destiny 2 might have to wait a bit longer for the Shadow and Order update. It’s been pushed back, likely to make room for Bungie’s new game, Marathon. Although the start of Destiny 2’s Year of Prophecy had some rocky moments with the Edge of Fate changes, the recent Renegades expansion, inspired by Star Wars, has been well-received and given the game a positive boost.
The recent update to Destiny 2 included a surprising amount of inspiration from Star Wars, and the combination was surprisingly well-received. While the update doesn’t directly reference Star Wars characters or places, fans quickly noticed clear influences. The new social hub, Tharsis Outpost, feels like a classic cantina, and several weapons – like Uncivil Discourse, A499, and The Heirloom – are clearly inspired by those used by Han Solo, Din Djarin, and Chewbacca. Players can even earn the Praxic Blade, which is Destiny 2’s version of a lightsaber. Unfortunately, it seems like those hoping for even more new content will have to wait a bit longer.
Destiny 2 Shadow and Order Reportedly Delayed
Destiny 2 players will have to wait a bit longer for the next major update. Bungie had previously shared a roadmap showing the ‘Shadow and Order’ update arriving on March 2, 2026, but plans have shifted. According to Forbes writer Paul Tassi, who has reliable sources, the update is being delayed, though the new release date hasn’t been announced yet. Bungie hasn’t officially confirmed this change.
Details about the upcoming Shadow and Order update are still limited, but it’s shaping up to be similar to the mid-season Ash and Iron release in Destiny 2’s previous season. Unfortunately, Ash and Iron didn’t quite live up to expectations, leaving many players frustrated. While Destiny 2 hasn’t regained its player base from before the Edge of Fate expansion, the Renegades update has been generally well-received. Players are enjoying the new features like the Praxic Blade, the Lawless Frontier activity, and changes to core mechanics, including the return of popular weekly activities like Nightfalls through the Vanguard Alerts system.
The delay was likely due to Bungie setting a launch date for Marathon – March 5th. To give the new game a chance to shine without competing for attention with Destiny 2, Bungie is temporarily shifting focus away from Destiny 2. However, they are planning some shared content between the two games, including a special emote called “Waiting for Exfil”, a unique ornament for the Modern MIDA Multi-tool exotic weapon, and the Silkworm Weave Shader.
Following a difficult 2025 marked by disappointing test results and accusations of art plagiarism, the game Marathon appears to be improving after being delayed and reintroduced by Bungie. Bungie seems to have listened to player feedback, adding requested features like solo queue, nearby voice chat, and diverse maps with changing weather, enhanced lighting, and better graphics. This positive shift, combined with an early March release date, suggests Bungie is now more confident in the game. While ARC Raiders remains popular, it will be interesting to see how Marathon performs in the same genre.
