Xbox Game Pass has expanded its library with the addition of Resident Evil Village and MIO: Memories in Orbit. These are the sixth and seventh games added to the service this January, meaning Xbox Game Pass is currently adding more titles than it’s removing this month.
The popular game Resident Evil Village—also known as Resident Evil 8—is now available on Xbox Game Pass for the first time. This release isn’t accidental; Capcom strategically timed it to build excitement for the upcoming game, Resident Evil Requiem, which launches on February 27th.
Xbox Game Pass Now Has 3 Resident Evil Games
After a wait, Resident Evil Village is now available on Xbox Game Pass, joining Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Those two older remakes were added to the service earlier in 2024 and are still playable. Resident Evil Village isn’t a new release for Game Pass, so it’s included in all tiers except the basic ‘Essential’ plan.
Xbox Game Pass Adds Its First Day-One Game of 2026
Alongside Resident Evil Village, Xbox Game Pass added the new game MIO: Memories in Orbit on January 20th. Developed by the creators of Shady Part of Me, MIO is a beautifully artistic metroidvania set on a massive starship called the Vessel. Players control MIO, a small robot, as it explores the ship’s lush environments, hidden areas, and dangerous machines. The goal is to restore the ship’s memories and prevent it from shutting down, all while discovering a touching story about what it means to be alive. With its focus on storytelling through the environment, challenging gameplay inspired by the Souls series, and unique hand-drawn visuals, MIO: Memories in Orbit feels similar to Hollow Knight.
The new indie game MIO: Memories in Orbit is the first title launching directly onto Xbox Game Pass in 2026. It’s available to players with PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. While games usually take around six months to become available on the Premium tier, MIO: Memories in Orbit is likely to reach those subscribers around July 2026. For now, it adds to the already large number of metroidvania games available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.

January 2026’s Xbox Game Pass will be updated in two waves. First, MIO: Memories in Orbit and Resident Evil Village will be added. Then, Wave 2 will feature Nova Roma, a city-building game set in ancient Rome, launching on January 22nd. Looking ahead, seven games will be leaving the Game Pass library on January 31st, but at least four new games will be available on the service on day one in February 2026.
