Hitman Is Getting Cross-Progression Soon

On February 3rd, Hitman World of Assassination will receive an update that lets players carry their progress and save files across all 10 platforms where the game is available. This cross-progression feature was revealed as part of the game’s fifth anniversary, but existing players should know there’s a key detail to be aware of.

Hitman World of Assassination, originally released as Hitman 3 on January 20, 2021, is the culmination of IO Interactive’s Hitman trilogy. In January 2023, it was rebranded as Hitman World of Assassination and included all the content from the previous two games as a free update. Even though the core game is five years old, it continues to be updated with new content, including major expansions and exciting ‘Elusive Target’ missions featuring famous actors.

Hitman World of Assassination is Getting Cross-Progression in February

IO Interactive has announced that players will be able to carry their progress across different platforms in Hitman World of Assassination starting February 3, 2026. To use this feature, you’ll need to connect your IO Interactive account to all the platforms where you play the game. Then, you’ll choose one platform as your ‘Primary’ account – this is where your save data will be stored and copied to other platforms. For example, if you’ve reached level 5,000 on PlayStation 5 and set it as your Primary account, you’ll be able to access the same level on PC, as long as both accounts are linked to the same IO Interactive account. Keep in mind that you’ll need to own a copy of Hitman World of Assassination on each platform you want to play on.

As a huge fan of Hitman World of Assassination, I’m really excited about the upcoming cross-progression update! Here’s a breakdown of everything you’ll be able to carry over between platforms when it finally launches.

  • Experience
  • Player Level
  • Challenges
  • Location Mastery
  • Unlocks and Inventory
  • Achievements / Trophies
  • Freelancer Mode Progression
  • Campaign Story Progress

Not all of your progress and content will automatically transfer between different versions of Hitman World of Assassination – specifically between consoles, PC, and mobile. If you’ve purchased downloadable content (DLC), you’ll need to own it separately on each platform you play on, even if you already own it on another platform. For instance, if you buy the ‘Banker Pack’ DLC (inspired by James Bond: Casino Royale) on PC, that won’t unlock the same items and missions on your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or any other device. You’ll need to buy the ‘Banker Pack’ again for each platform where you want to use it.

When cross-progression is turned on, you can only access save files linked to your main account. If you want to play older saves from other platforms, just turn off cross-progression. Your other accounts will then go back to how they were before they were connected, letting you continue from those older saves.

Hitman World of Assassination is Losing Hitman 2 Carryover Feature

Okay, so the new cross-progression update is mostly great, but there’s one bummer. They’re getting rid of the ability to transfer saves from Hitman 2 completely. IO Interactive says it’s to make sure everything runs smoothly and avoid problems with the old and new progression systems. They’re turning this feature off on February 3rd, so if you still want to bring over your progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman World of Assassination, you’ve got about two weeks to do it (as of today). It’s a bit annoying, but hopefully it means a more stable experience overall.
