GameStop Comments on ‘Infinite Money Glitch’ Discovered by YouTuber

GameStop has responded to a video posted earlier this month by YouTuber RJCmedia that highlighted a way to gain unlimited store credit. The issue, dubbed the ‘Infinite Money Glitch,’ involved trading in a Nintendo Switch 2 and taking advantage of a promotion for used games to earn a profit in GameStop credit.

RJCmedia started his YouTube channel in May 2022, initially documenting his experiences delivering for DoorDash. After a year-long break, he came back to YouTube in 2023 with a new focus: showcasing his retro gaming collection. Since then, he’s consistently uploaded videos about gaming, often featuring GameStop. These videos include searching for rare, used games at GameStop and documenting how he uses sales to grow his collection.

“Our Stores Are Not Designed To Function As Infinite Money Printers” — GameStop Puts Abrupt End to ‘Infinite Money Glitch’

On January 17, 2026, RJCmedia published a video claiming to have discovered a way to make unlimited money in GameStop by exploiting various deals. The first six and a half minutes of the 13-minute video show RJCmedia and another creator, WoodmanClassics, combining several GameStop promotions with bulk trade-ins. They used a standing offer for GameStop Pro members – a 20% bonus towards pre-orders – alongside a current promotion giving a 25% bonus when trading in for used games.

The latter part of this video focuses on the ‘Infinite Money Glitch’ involving GameStop. It shows RJCmedia buying and trading in a Nintendo Switch 2, along with a used game, to take advantage of a promotion. They initially purchased the Switch 2 for $415 and traded it in for $385 in store credit. But when the used game is scanned, the promotion activates, increasing the credit to $445. This means RJCmedia made a $30 profit – they earned more money than what they originally paid for the console by using the GameStop offer.

On January 20th, three days after RJCmedia shared a video about a game-breaking bug, GameStop released an official statement. They briefly explained the ‘Infinite Money Glitch’ discovered by RJCmedia and confirmed they had fixed it. GameStop’s statement was lighthearted, saying that the glitch had been ‘patched’.

We’ve made changes to our sales and promotions to prevent customers from exploiting simple calculations for excessive profit, and things are back to normal. We appreciate everyone’s ingenuity, but just a reminder that our stores aren’t meant to generate unlimited money.

Responses to GameStop’s statement about a recent issue on X (formerly Twitter) are all over the map. Some people are wondering how much money the person who found the glitch, RJCmedia, made before GameStop fixed it, while others are praising them as a hero, even suggesting it’s a positive thing for everyone. On YouTube, customers are sharing stories about how much store credit they supposedly earned using the glitch, with some claiming to have gained nearly $1,000 in “free” credit.

Even though it’s only been a few weeks into 2026, GameStop has already been in the news several times, and this is just the latest instance. On January 9th, the company announced it was closing nearly 300 stores, reportedly with little to no warning for employees. Recently, GameStop also faced criticism online for a comment about the first official photo of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider movie. GameStop’s X account shared an image from IGN featuring Turner, with the caption “This is not Lara Croft.” Fans of Tomb Raider quickly defended Turner, responding by posting pictures of messy GameStop toy aisles with captions like “This is not a gaming store.”
