Sony Isn't Short on Candidates for Its Rumored Big Exclusives in 2025

As someone who’s been following the gaming industry for quite some time now, I must say that 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for PlayStation fans like myself! With several highly anticipated titles rumored to grace our screens, it feels like Christmas has come early.

2024, man, what a blast for a gamer like me with a PlayStation! Over the past few months, I’ve been spoiled rotten with an amazing lineup of games, especially some fantastic exclusives. Titles like “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth”, “Stellar Blade”, and “Rise of the Ronin” have made my gaming experience unforgettable, and they’re all exclusive to PlayStation consoles. These games were developed by external studios, but Sony’s in-house teams haven’t fallen short either. They’ve dropped gems like the adorable 3D platformer “Astro Bot”, the action-packed hero shooter “Concord”, and the highly praised baseball sim “MLB The Show 24”. To top it all off, Guerrilla Games is set to release “Lego Horizon Adventures” later this year on PlayStation. It’s been an incredible ride!

2025 appears to have a lighter release schedule for PlayStation compared to 2024 at the moment, with only two major PS5 exclusives – “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” and “Ghost of Yotei” – slated for next year. However, it’s suggested that Sony may have more games in store for 2025. This is based on a claim made by a reputable insider, Shinobi602, who recently hinted at additional content planned for 2025 beyond “DS2”, “Ghost of Yote i”, and the multi-platform game “Marathon”. If this turns out to be true, it could mean that we might see a surge of PlayStation first-party studios, new titles, and anticipated releases in 2025.

There Are Reportedly More Sony Games Planned for 2025 Besides DS2, Ghost of Yotei, and Marathon

Insomniac’s Next Game, Venom: Lethal Protector

A potential PS5 exclusive rumored for a 2025 release could be an unannounced Venom spin-off from Insomniac Games, allegedly titled “Venom: Lethal Protector.” This game, which leaked following the December 2023 hack of Insomniac, is said to continue the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” series. Similar to “Spider-Man 2,” it appears that multiple characters will be playable, with Venom as the main character. The scale and length of “Venom: Lethal Protector” are estimated to be similar to that of “Spider-Man: Miles Morales.” The storyline is expected to link events from “SM2” to future installments. Documents leaked after the hack hint at a 2025 release, but given that 2024 is nearly over and Insomniac has yet to confirm it, there’s speculation that the spin-off may be delayed until 2026 or even cancelled altogether.

Bend Studios’ Next Game, a New Open World IP With Multiplayer Elements

It’s expected that Bend Studio will unveil their upcoming game sometime in 2025. Their last production was “Days Gone”, a controversial open-world zombie game that garnered a dedicated fanbase despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Given that it’s been nearly six years since the release of “Days Gone” in April 2019, it seems plausible that Bend Studio is nearing completion on their new project. Although specifics about this upcoming game are limited, Bend Studio has hinted in the past that the project they’re currently developing is a fresh intellectual property set within an open-world environment with multiplayer features. It’s possible that this game could utilize a live service business model, but at this point, it remains unclear.

Haven Studios’ Debut Game, the PvP Heist Shooter Fairgames

Regarding upcoming live service titles, it’s possible that the multiplayer heist shooter named “Fairgames” might be launched next year too. This game is the inaugural project for Haven Studios, a fresh PlayStation in-house developer acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2022. During the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, a brief CGI trailer for “Fairgames” was unveiled without any accompanying gameplay or release date. Although Sony has not yet disclosed the launch window for this upcoming PS5 and PC title, it appears likely that “Fairgames” will be released in 2025. However, due to the mixed initial reactions towards “Fairgames” and the failure of a similar PlayStation Game-as-a-Service title named “Concord”, Sony might decide to postpone the game until 2026 or later to prevent a launch as problematic as that of the now defunct hero FPS.

Bluepoint Games’ Next Game, an Original Project

Bluepoint Games, a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is a studio that hasn’t been as active lately. They are recognized for their work on remakes, remasters, and porting projects, with their last major project being the highly praised Demon’s Souls remake, which came out in 2020 as a launch title for the PlayStation 5. Over the past four years, Bluepoint has been secretly developing its first original game. Since it’s been quite some time since the release of Demon’s Souls, it seems reasonable to predict that this unannounced title might be released in 2025.

Santa Monica Studio’s Next Game, a New IP Led by Cory Barlog

Similar to Bluepoint Games, Santa Monica Studio might be venturing into fresh gaming realms with its upcoming project. Following the successful release of God of War: Ragnarok in 2022, whispers about the studio’s future plans have been buzzing online. Alongside another GoW game, there are reports suggesting that Santa Monica Studio is developing a new intellectual property under the guidance of the director of God of War (2018), Cory Barlog. This project is said to have begun development in 2019. The last time the studio released a game other than a God of War title was Kinetica in 2001, so if these rumors hold true, this unnamed title would be the first original intellectual property from Santa Monica Studio in more than two decades. While a 2025 launch for Santa Monica Studio’s next game might be overly optimistic, it’s still quite possible.

Sony-Published Third-Party Games, Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside

Beyond its self-produced games, Sony has also partnered with several external game developers, which is consistent with their usual business approach. Currently, only two third-party titles for PlayStation that have been officially announced are “Lost Soul Aside” and “Convallaria”. Both of these games are part of Sony’s China Hero Project, a program that supports new projects from Chinese independent developers. The upcoming single-player action RPG for PS5 and PC, “Lost Soul Aside”, has recently been demonstrated with new footage, suggesting it might launch in 2025. However, the multiplayer third-person shooter “Convallaria” for PS4/PS5 hasn’t been heard of since 2022, but there’s a possibility it could be unveiled at a future PlayStation event next year.
