As a long-time fan of The Legend of Zelda series, I’ve seen my fair share of unique and exciting mechanics introduced over the years. But none have quite captured my heart like the Automatons from Echoes of Wisdom! These mechanical marvels, crafted by none other than Dampé, the Automaton Engineer, are an absolute game-changer in combat.

In “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”, Zelda takes the spotlight as the principal character. The developers at Nintendo and Grezzo had to be innovative with the game’s approach to combat. Early in the game, Zelda engages in battles using ‘Echoes’, replicas of the various items and foes found in Hyrule. On their own, Echoes offer a vast array of possibilities, almost limitless in terms of player experimentation. However, the developers didn’t stop at that. Approximately halfway through “Echoes of Wisdom”, players can unlock ‘Automatons’.

In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll find a unique combat asset called Automatons. Unlike other games, these aren’t mystical beings but rather mechanical creations by the character Dampé, who is known as the Automaton Engineer. This guide will help you track down Dampé and complete his side-quest “Dampé, the Automaton Engineer,” which ultimately grants you access to using Automatons in Echoes of Wisdom.

In Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll discover Dampé northward from Hyrule Ranch, where your first horse is located. From the main gate of the ranch, head slightly northeast towards Hyrule Field. Soon, an automatic cutscene will start. In this scene, you’ll see Dampé attempting to retrieve a key from a mischievous crow, marking the beginning of a new side-quest.

As I take control of Zelda, I decide to use my chosen Echo for dealing with airborne foes. The Crow or Guay Echoes are effective in this case. Once the Crow is vanquished, I make my way towards the item it drops and grab it. This action triggers Dampé to express gratitude, and a peek at the quest details shows the prize was a special Clockwork Key. Dampé then requests me to visit him at his residence to carry on with the mission.

Locate Dampé Studio, Dampé’s residence, on your map. It is situated along the western land route, not far from Jabul Waters, and lies to the northeast of Hyrule Castle. A tiny blue marker should indicate its position on your map.

Upon reaching Dampé Studio, he’ll thank you for your previous assistance by giving you five Twisted Pumpkins as a token of gratitude. He’ll also share his plan to design unique combat aids known as Automatons. To kickstart the process, he requires two Echoes for his initial creation.

  • Echo 1: Tektite
  • Echo 2: Mothula

Where to Find Mothula and Tektite in Echoes of Wisdom

Tektite Location:

If you do not already have the Tektite Echo, there is a series of small canyons near Dampé’s original location that is always occupied by several of these jumping enemies. Head there to collect the first Echo.

Mothula Location:

The Mothula Echo is found in the Gerudo Sanctum. If you did not collect the Echo while you were traversing the dungeon, you can still head back in and collect it.

After obtaining both Echoes, make your way back to Dampé’s Studio. Activate each Echo on the small platform within his workshop, and Dampé will utilize them to construct the initial Automaton: the Techtite. Additionally, you’ll be given the Clockwork Key, which enables Zelda to wind up her Automatons for use.

The Techtite, together with all Automatons, is called upon when you press left on the D-Pad and choose it. After summoning, you need to keep the Y button pressed to wind it up using the Clockwork Key. The Techtite can eliminate numerous enemies by soaring into the air with a powerful blast. It also has the ability to set its foes ablaze.

Should the Techtite sustain damage, you’ll be required to head back to Dampé Studio to get it repaired, with a reasonable charge involved.
